What does the dr will have to decided if he will see you mean??

My GP's nurse called to make me an appointment at Kirkland Clinic at UAB with an infectious disease that my doctor had chosen.  She told me they had to send them my records and my doctor's notes.  She also said, because I have RMSF, they decided on a case by case basic if they will take you.  What does that mean?  I hate this disease.  I know so many of you have dealt with this for years.  It's all new to me.  I've only had illnesses that you go to a doctor of your choice, treated and get well.

I also was referred to my ID Doc as he specialized. Still had to wait to see if I could be a "patient"... Seems backwards that you already feel sick and have to wait for what seems like acceptance. I do hope that your ID doc chooses to see you and has some help for you. I was given a price of advice that has worked great... Try and possibly find another doctor as well so you either prefer their treatment or as a great second opinion. I currently have 3 working with me. Don't forget to be the advocate for your health... I'm sure you will get answers and I hope you feel good again soon!

I was told by my doctor that the new ID doctor did specialize in RMSF along with other things.  Now, I have to wait to see if he decides to take my case.  He may be like the other ID doctor and think 2 weeks of doxy gets it out of your system.  Praying something works out soon.

I too had to submit what felt like a "resume" to my now ID Doc. He did an incredible amount of work and time helping me. That was 3 years ago. Jackie is correct, if not their specialty better to know and find someone who can help. I'm lucky I currently am awaiting an appointment with a Doctor that focuses on Lyme. I would look at the positive, if this is not in the specialty of the doctor maybe see if they have a referral for you. Can't hurt to ask. Good Luck and your not alone!

There may be MDs who take Lyme seriously but simply do not talk about it in public, because it is heresy in the medical world.  This doc may be a non-LLMD, but you don't know till you go.  Keep us posted.  And get copies of all the test results!

Since specialist do not believe in LLMD, then where do they think we should get help, if not from them.  Of course, I guess most of them believe RMSF is gone within weeks not months.

It's kind of odd, isn't it, but I think the reason is that specialist docs may focus on a small area of medicine, and they want to be sure they spend their time working with patients who can benefit the most from that expertise.

Not all specialists work that way, but some do.
