plaquenil and lyme treatment

Please help me as I'm supposed to start a new regimen of meds for lyme. Currently on biaxin, omnicef and about to add plaquenil.

I've read good things about it but also bad side effects.

Can anyone please help me with this. I don't want to take anything that has really bad side effects.

I'm doing well with my progress and back to work and the four week flares are starting to get better but still there.

I've read that this drug can cause blurry vision if used over a long period of time? Has anyone had this experience?

Thanks, JKV44

My blurred was somewhat bad, but I was able to drive. It was very fleeting like lasting for seconds then disappearing. I decided to go off plaguenil because I am on so many other drugs like Armour Thyroid, Flagyl, and Zithro and the LLMD did not think I needed to be on Plaquenil, but I am sure everyone is different as all Lyme symptoms vary too.

My CD 57 was low at 26. My C4a was like 6311 which was too high meaning inflammation related to my low CD 57.

Good luck to you! I know these are difficult times.

Hi,
when you say blurred vision, was it really bad? I'm just so concerned about the blurred vision part. I heard that this drug is great for lyme. My doctor prescribed it because I had a microscopic parasite in addition to the lyme.

I was diagnosed with Igenex and the CD57 which was 30 in June. What was your CD57? Jkv

I was on Plaquenil for about 6 months, but it was because I was diagnosed with seronegative RA. It did actually relieve a little of my joint pain, but I still had other numerous problems, blurred vision, migraines, IBS, pins and needles, and chronic fatigue. Then an LLMD diagnosed me via IGENIX and CD 57 test and I have Lymes. So I can't really say the medicine gave me those problems because LYMES does too. All I can say is that it may make you a little nauseous in the beginning and to get regular eye exams (mine were normal). Good luck!

I replied to your other post about plaquenil.  I have not had vision problems, but if you have not had a recent eye exam you may want to get one as a baseline.
