why does my husband have muscle weekness and twitch in bed once he gets in?

Hi we are heading for the University of Mass medical center tomorrow and My husband has not gotten a diagnosis of what is wrong with him. He has a very hard time walking up the stairs and has a gait about him where his feet lean to the outsides when walking. At night when he gets home and is tired he comes to the bed takes off his clothes and begins twitching as soon as he hits the sheets. What am I to ask the doctor to look for with these symptoms for him?

I've wondered the same thing about other biting bugs ...  it's a good point you make.

I don't think people have to be exposed to tick-infected areas to contract lyme disease.

Can we continue blaming lyme disease on poor old ticks?? I dont think we can. They have become celebrities in the medical world, and possibly for the wrong reason.  I truely believe any blood-vector insect that feeds off wild life and then feeds off us can cause this disease (Misquitos, fleas, lice, etc.)

So even if your not in a tick-infected area (such as myself, Toronto, Canada.. because our border control stops them at customs) You must consider being tested (even if the tests are a crock of ****) unfortunely most doctors rely on these to support their treatment theories.

Good luck with your husband. You've just started on a path that i am finally getting to the end of!! my prayers are with you.

Message me if you have any questions.

I'm not a doctor, but I can speak from a Lyme disease patient's perspective.

First and foremost, what has been ruled out, if anything?  Any exposure to ticks that you are aware of (not necessary to have Lyme, but great indicator).

They are probably going to do a typical neurological work up on him.  This will most likely include a screening lab for Lyme disease called the ELISA.  This screening is worthless - literally.  False negatives everywhere.  I asked specifically for a Western Blot for Lyme from Igenex Labs in CA.  If you ask the same, be prepared for them to look at you like you are crazy.  Tell them of any rashes or ticks, EVER seen on him, back to childhood.

They may have him go thru a nerve conduction study, loads of labwork, MRI of brain (I ask for with and without contrast of brain AND c-spine, just me) urine sample, etc. looking for heavy metal poisoning, autoimmune diseases, MS, B-12 deficiency.....and others.  I think those are all the big ones they tested me for.

Let them know of any fatigue, dizziness, weakness, numbness, tingling, viral illnesses, psychiatric issues - you name it.  Start a folder with all of his medical information, write down everything you want to say and ask and take notes.

I hope this helps and keep in touch with this forum.  We are eager to share and help here.

Take care
