prometrium for heavy bleeding

I am 51 years old and I was told by my Ob/Gyn that I have estrogen dominance that is causing my endometrium to keep thickening and consequently causing heavy and long periods. I also have iron deficiency anemia because of this. I have had endometrial biopsies (about a year ago) and Pelvic/transvaginal ultra sounds which did show a thickened lining but otherwise normal. My Dr has prescribed Prometrium 200mgs to be taken for the 1st 5 days of my next period. Everything I have read about this is that it is usually prescribed for 10 days before your period, so I am confused. Also, he mentioned that Prometrium will help protect me from endometrial cancer and possibly breast cancer. I read that it may increase the risk of breast cancer so I am totally confused.
Can someone help and offer advice? I am going for a 2nd opinion in December with another Ob/Gyn. Thanks.

I just finished reading a good book that talked a lot about estrogen dominance.  "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Premenopause"  Dr. John R. Lee.  I believe he has also written another book with the same title only "Menopause" rather than Premenopause.  Some very good suggested solutions are offered in the book I read.  Hope that helps : )
