Bleeding after sex

I've had  a smear test and it's clear but I always bleed after sex. Spoke to my doctor and he was very unsympathetic, telling me that as I'm 51 and should get over it.

I'm not on any hormones or any medication at all. Had my last period Feb 2012 and no bleeds since then apart from after sex. Had first sex after menopause Nov 2012 and it's been going on since then. Not much blood but I also feel sore afterwards. I'm going to try Replense to see if that helps.

Hello there. It's definetly smart to get a second opinion. A Pap smear only checks the cells in the cervix. If you are bleeding there can be a number of reasons, dryness, hormones or another issue that can't be detected by a Pap smear. I would contact a new dr.

If you don't mind me asking, how long has this been going on? How much blood is there? Are you on any hormones?

Everything will be ok!

Thanks but I don't know what's normal after the menopause. I'm just so confused and frightened. I will seek a second opinion.

Get a second opinion regarding the bleeding.  You know very well what's normal for you and what's not.  It's good that the pap smear is normal, but I'm sure you'll want some sort of closure for why you're bleeding after sex.  Unfortunately, some doctors just don't want to put in the effort to figure things out.  Hopefully finding a different gynecologist who will actually help you get to the bottom of things will make a difference.
