Cancer

I just lost my brother and father in one year because of cancer.  My cholesterol is 5.8 and my mom had 2 heart attacks due to cholesterol.  My FHS is 53.4 and LH 38.4.  I do not sleep well due to night sweats and continues headaches.  How safe is HRT and what would you suggest.

Hi I don't know how much this will help but I am coming from having hormone replacement to trying to get off of it and it's horrible.  I am calling my doctor in the morning to start going back up.  I had a hysterectomy when I was 26 and have been on premerin all these years.  DO NOT get on premerin not matter what.  It is a terrible drug.  It worked for me for years but for other reasons I will not take it and nobody should.  I am on Vivelle Dot.  It's a patch and it has been working wonderfully.  I have lupus and I thought getting off hormones may help but I feel like I am going crazy.  We lowered my dosage and I have been having hot flashes, freezing the next minute and anxiety like crazy.  I also have a friend on bio-identicals and she says she feels great.  They and vivelle are suppsed to be the closest to what your body makes from what I am told.
Good luck!
Oh and the thing about bio-identicals is you have to go to someone who really knows what they are doing.  You have to be tested while on no hormone replacement to see what you need.

Hi mandibas

I'm sorry that I can't give you an informed answer re your concerns, I'm weighing up the pros and cons myself. It's really sad about your brother and father.

I can't sleep either and the night sweats etc are horrible. Due to finding out I have ostoporosis, I've decided to try HRT soon. I am about to do a saliva test for biodentical (probably spelled wrongly!) hormones. I believe they have similar risks to other HRT, but will be taylored to what hormones I need.

Menopause is horrible isn't it!

I'm sorry I haven't been very helpful, but I wish you the very best for what you decide.
