Do I still need a PAP exam?

I am 61 years old and post-menopausal. I still have my uterus and one ovary. My new GP told me that I do not need to have gynocological checkups anymore because of my age and the fact that I am not sexually active. I reminded him that I had had a Leep procedure some years ago when a PAP smear showed a precancerous condition on my cervex. I'm confused..Should I take this Dr.'s advice?

If there's still a cervix, we need paps done and an evaluation of the vaginal walls etc. as well as a pelvic exam.  Even though not sexually active, if there's a cervix and given your history....there's still need for paps.  You may not need them every year anymore...perhaps, every 2 or 3 but, you still need them.

I'd be heading to another doc for them or, simply demand that he do them anyways....."for your peace of mind" if that's what he'll accept.

I had a partial hysterectomy in which they took my cervix and uterus. My doctor is very thorough, and he explained that I still need to come in for a pap smear since one could get cancer of the vaginal wall. I feel better knowing that all is okay in that department.
