I think a lot of women experience thyroid problems around the time of menopause, mostly it's hypo thyroid. You and I have a much less common problem of hyper. I was also put on tapazole and couldn't tolerate it, mostly because my joints got painfully swollen (I have arthritis from Lyme disease, and the tapazole made it 100 times worse), and it also upset my stomach. I have 3 nodules that they are keeping an eye on and checking my TSH since there's nothing I can take. My doc says that nodules will usually eventually burn themselves out, so we're just waiting to see if that happens. If it doesn't, he's going to give me radioactive iodine to kill the nodules (and possibly the thyroid). Right now its wait and see. I haven't come across anything good yet as far as something natural I can take, but let me know if you come across anything, and I'll let you know as well if I do. I'd much rather take natural "drugs" than the synthetic ones with all their side effects. Take Care and talk to you soon!
Hi mags
What are they doing for the hyperthyroid? I wondered if the pre-menopause was caused by the thyroid going hyper, because in my case my period stopped in February and in March my heart started beating fast. Then they gave me metoprolol, a beta blocker, to slow down the heart, but we can't do anything for the thyroid medication wise because I tried tapazole and broke out in hives. They are planning surgery to remove 1/2 the thyroid that has a nodule on it that is making it hyper.
Until then, they said just wait it out.
Have you tried anything natural for either conditions?
thank you
Your racing heart and hot flashes are most definitely from your hyperthyroidism. Of course, combined with menopause, they're usually even worse (especially the hot flashes). I am also hyperthyroid and I have pretty extreme tachycardia from it sometimes. I got both tachy and hot flashes prior to menopause from it.
