Also if it is hard, rubbery or firm underneath your nipples it might be wise to get an ultrasound, but most important is the hormone test. I would see either a surgeon or an endocronologist.

This sucks I know, but if it is gynecomastia you need to get a hormone test done to rule out any other possible causes. 75% of the time is has no serious cause the rest of the time there can be a more serious underlying cause. Gynecomastia or enlarged breast buds is a benign breast condition that is not harmful in itself.

You need to test:
Free testosterone
Serum testosterone
Total testosterone
Estradiol
Dhea
Cortisol
Hepatic panel (Liver and kidney function)

This condition usually happens during puberty and in older men 50+

It can happen at any age for many different reasons you need to rule out the serious causes. Also if it is a hormonal imbalance and you fix it is may slow or completely stop the growth. The only real way to get rid of true gynecomastia is with surgery and if there is an untreated underlying cause it can grow back even after surgery.

Hope this helps
