Hello. Weight training has been my passion for the last 7 years. I can't live without it. Recently, I've joined the Peace Corps and am living awkwardly in another country.
I finally found a gym in my new surroundings, after 3 weeks without. I trained at 75% on a Friday night and woke up Saturday morning feeling like someone kicked me in the balls. The left side of my penis and my left testicle/scrotum were swollen and painful! I developed a fever and called the Peace Corps doctors. They sent a car for me and brought me into their office. Examined me, took me to a urologist for more examinations. Had an ultrasound, blood test, urine test. I don't understand much, but they concluded that I have a Varicocele and put me on antibiotics. When the swelling receded, I found a hardened, sore, protruding vein running from the top (dorsum) of my penis to the bottom, just behind the head.
Near as I can tell, this is Penile Mondor's Disease. NBD, right? Two causal factors: weight training and prolonged abstinence (3 weeks without an orgasm).
The Peace Corps doctors were really only focusing on the Varicocele and ignored the PMD. They forbid me from weightlifting during my recovery and implied that I cannot exercise even after. My question is obviously: after I recover, may I continue lifting weights? How long after being normal must I wait?
Thank you.
