Migraines forever?

I have suffered with migraines for 3-4 years now, I have 2 cysts on my brain, which my doctor claims they have nothing to do with m migraines. I see a Neurologist once a month and acupuncture for 5 months. I have been through about seventeen different medications, and I'm having these severe migraines everyday. I'm now at my wits end and do not know where to go from here, I am now taking progesterone and magnesium for 30 days now. Still no progress what can I do? I have been known to pass out and throw up often from these migraines, I probably visit the urgent care about twice a month.

I feel your pain.  I too, get migraines everyday.  I have had to quit my job and go on disability.  How much magnesium are you taking every day? I have found I get some relief from bio-feedback for my pain, but you really just have to try things to see what works for you.  Are you taking pain meds?  If you are, it's possible you are getting rebound headaches, too.   Do you have any food triggers that you are aware of?  If you aren't sure, you may want to keep a food diary, which will be helpful .  My food triggers are processed lunch meats ( bologna, ham, salami, hot dogs, etc.) and red wine.  If I eat anything of that nature, I am  guaranteed a migraine.  It's a little difficult at first, trying to see what causes a migraine, but of course it's with it.  Good luck and let me know if I can help you in any other way,

There are several types of migraine. The following exercises will definitely help the migraine.Increase your timing gradually, and when you reach the maximum timing, you will start to notice benefits. Continue the exercise once a day after the migraine has gone.Come back to report progress.
Anulom Vilom –
Close your right nostril with thumb and deep breath-in through left nostril
then – close left nostril with two fingers and breath-out through right nostril
then -keeping the left nostril closed  deep breath-in through right nostril
then - close your right nostril with thumb and breath-out through left nostril.
This is one cycle of anulom vilom.
Repeat this cycle for 20 to 30  minutes twice a day(maximum 60 minutes in one day).
You can do this before breakfast/lunch/dinner or before bedtime or in bed.Remember to take deep long breaths into the lungs. You can do this while sitting on floor or chair or lying in bed
Bhramri Pranayam -Close eyes. Close ears with thumb, index finger on forehead, and rest three fingers on base of nose touching eyes. Breathe in through nose. And now breathe out through nose while humming like a bee.
Duration : 5 to 10 times

I know how bad you feel - its horrible and be proud of yourself just for getting through another day.  Don't give up - I would stay on the magnesium - how much are you taking a day?  I'd give the progesterone another months, two at the most.  If no help, then ask the doctor if you can stop.  It is not worth the risk.  Do you live near a large city where there may be a headache clinic?  They can do multiple testing.  Remember you can only change one thing at a time for accurate research.  Call your doctor's office and ask if they can give you a pain medicine in a suppository or nasal spray.  With a headach this long you are probably dehydrated.  Are you constipated?  If so, take stool softers until you are going alot every day (not to diareah) but you have to get the toxins out of your body.  And how exactly does your neurologist know that the cysts are not contributing to the migraine?  How old are you?  If your 20 ish then 3 -4 years suggest migraines but if you are 30ish then that would be late onset unless your Ob/gyn did hormone testing and you are in early peri-menopause.  For food triggers, look up the foods that people on MAOI's can't have - try going without any of them.  Slowly add them back in but if you are in a constant state of pain - that will be hard.  Have you tried getting toradol 60mg at the urgent care with nausea med?  It can break a headache when pain med won't.  But it is slow.  Personally I opt for both.  But then you are at the ER for a while.  Take Care

I too **USED** to get severe migraines.   Sometimes I would even have to go to the ER for treatment.  My blood pressure has always been perfect.   My Dr. took it down a notch with propranolol.   It's a beta blocker.   I take it once a day.   I've been on it for 4 months now and haven't even had a nuisance headache!   I feel great!   I've had absolutely no side effects!   I would check into it if I were you.   Migraines are so horrible!

Hi,

I think you are on the right track with magnesium, progesterone, and acupunture. Please continue with these for some more time. Also have you been able to identify a trigger for your migraine? I know it is difficult but please try. Take care!
