Exercise induced aura

Hi,

I'm 27 and ever since I've been 16 I've suffered from exercise induced aura with the occasional following migraine.  Its been a few years since I've had a throbbing headache following an aura, 99% of headaches I would describe as annoying and certainly manageable.

Generally a session in the gym (40 mins) or a soccer match (90 mins) will trigger the aura, usually kicking in an hour or so after I've stopped exercising and generally lasting 60 - 90 minutes.  Other days I can escape Scott free, there is no real trend to them that I can make out, sugar levels, sleep patterns etc.

It's something I've just put up with over the last 11 years, mentioned it once to my doctor a few years back but he had no insights as to what may cause it.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me?

Thanks,

Gav (Looking at an aura filled screen while typing :)........)

Try drinking TONS of water before and after exercising as even the slightest bit of dehydration can trigger a migraine or migraine symptoms.

Hi,
usually Aura follows migraine attacks and you would be knowing when, sometimes it can be precipitated by sudden attacks and can be sever, avoid stress to body and try to relax. antimigraine tablets can help you but consult an ENT specialist and get check up.

Hi,
Emotional and physical stress are known to trigger migraine attack and exercise is a kind of physical stress.Sometimes after exercise only aura occurs which is not followed by a migraine attack. Most of the times these auras are visual, as they seem to be in your case as well. In some cases vaso-constrictors like ergomar just before begining exercise has been tried with success. Please consult your physician incase before you try it out.Hope you feel better soon.
