9 weeks after D&C - no period

I was diagnosed with a missed abortion earlier this year.  At first the clinic thought it was an ectopic pregnancy, so they told me I had to go to the hospital.

The hospital set me up for a D&C on August 21, 2010. It has been nine weeks since the procedure. I have not got my period at all no spotting.. nothing. I have also been suffering from some other odd symptoms.

They scheduled my follow up for Oct 6, 2010. However, I ended up going back to the emergency room at the end of  September (around the 28th). I had suffered though about three days of terrible cramping. I couldn't stand, sit, move. Everything hurt from coughing to simply trying to use the bathroom. The ER doctor gave me a pregnancy test - which came out negative. After that he basically said there wasn't anything he could do for me.

I went to my follow up the next week.  By this time the cramping I was feeling the week before had stopped.  The doctor that day simply felt around my pelvic area to see if anything was sore. She said she didn't see anything out of the ordinary and sent me on my way.

I shrugged off the cramping and figured I would wait to see if my period would come.

This pass week Oct 24-27 I started suffering from the same sharp painful cramps. Yet again there was no sign of bleeding. This time I went to my usual clinic. They gave me a pregnancy test that came out negative, an annual exam, and a sonogram. They said they didn't see any retained material from the D&C or any back up of blood from menstruation. The doctor on site there gave me a prescription for the birth control pill. I am suppose to start it this Sunday in hopes that it helps jump start my period.

The cramping has died down a lot and by tomorrow or Sat it will probably be gone.

Can anyone give me some insight on what might be going on with me?

You may want to ask your RE/Doctor for a saline sonohystogram or a HSG (where the run dye through your tubes/uterus to look for scarring from the dnc.  This could cause the symptoms you are describing.  I pray the b/c pill helps : )    If you have scarring around your cervix, it would cause the cramps/no bleeding.  They will tell you this condition(ashermans) is rare, but it would be better safe then sorry.   You can also talk to Kris71 on here.. she had similar symptoms, and they found scarring.

Good Luck and please let me know how things go!

Thanks everyone. I contacted the doctor that was recommended and am waiting for a reply.

I don't want to wait to find out what's wrong, and I know something is wrong. Unfortunately I have already seen 3 different doctors and I am still paying off some of the bills. None of them have been of any help. I have to take my time in finding the next one to go to. Cause I can't afford for another one to charge me hundreds of dollars just to tell me I am fine .. when I know I am not.

I don't know it *****...

I hope this information from Kris and I helps.  I think you know what is going on with your body, and although doctors, nurses, ect keep telling us "nothing is wrong" we know there is something going on.  I am in the process of sending my records to the Doctor Kris is talking about.  His name is Dr. Charles March, in CA as Kris said,  and he is the best Asherman's doctor in the world.  You could look him up on the internet,  and believe it or not, you can contact him via email for his opinion.  I know it's hard to believe, but Dr. March answers emails for FREE and also does Phone calls for FREE!  You could contact him(via email at first) with your symptoms, and see what he recommends for you to do.  He always seems to answer w/in a hour or two(during the week) or a little longer on the week-end...
please believe me when I say, he will not mind you sending him an email!  He has helped me and so many ladies in the diagnosis and treatment of Asherman's.  ***@**** o m      (com is all one word, but I had to seperate it so MedHelp didn't remove it)
This is your fertility you are talking about, and being proactive in your own behalf is the best thing you could be doing!  Koudos to you!!!

Again, like Kris said... please feel free to contact us.  i sent you an invite to the asherman's forum I am trying to start on here, please post any questions you have on there... there are several people who could give you guidance... and Please join Asherman's.org too if you think advice would help.  It is not as user friendly as MH, but the ladies are very knowledgeable and will help you do the "right thing".

Hugs,
M

Hi Zehriya, I'm really sorry you are going through this. I went through the same exact thing. I had cramping about a month after my DNC (just like you), no bleeding. the cramping went away. that cramping really wasn't bad at all though. just felt like my period was on its way.  I went to my dr who did an ultrasound and saw nothing out of the ordinary and told me a lack of period was probably due to stress. (this was 5 weeks after my DNC). Another 3 weeks after that, (8 weeks past DNC) i started to get the cramping again but still not bleeding. The cramping quickly turned into full on abdominal pain. Same as you describe. Couldn't stand, sit, lie down, go to the bathroom without being in excruciating pain. Went back to my dr who did an ultrasound and saw lot of blood clots in my uterus. the blood was being trapped by scarring that was blocking the opening of my uterus. To make a long story short. I had to get a hysteroscopy (surgery where they go into your uterus very carefully with a camera so they can see what is going on in there)  to get scarring removed. You really should press your dr (or find someone who's going to help you) for more testing before you start the birth control. (my dr wanted to put me on birth control too and i refused because I knew that was not going to help). i know it's costly and scary but it's for the best. you don't want to just wait and see with this stuff because in a month - you might have the same awful pain again and whatever is causing the pain, could be doing further damage. You also might want to go to ashermans.org and ask advice on that site and get dr recommendations. Not sure where you live but i went to a top uterine scarring specialist in Los Angeles. I really did not want to mess around with this stuff because I'm trying to conceive another baby. The ladies on ashermans are really knowledgeable and might have some further insight for you I'm really not an expert on this as I've just been dealing with this since july/august.  Good luck and if you have any other questions etc. feel free to email me!

Thank you both.

I was afraid it might be Asherman's also. I didn't bring it up with any of the doctors I saw. I wanted to see if they would come to the same conclusion, or even mention it as a possibility. So far, none of them have mentioned it to me at all.

I found out about Asherman's by looking up my symptoms. I feel like something is wrong with me. I have never had such debilitating cramps before and I found it odd that they came back a month after the first time it happened. I can't really afford to keep going to the doctors for them to keep telling me I am fine. One of the people at the hospital even had the audacity to tell me she didn't think the cramps had anything to do with the D&C because they were happening a month after the fact.

I hate having to play the waiting game, but I think my only real option right now is to wait out November, take the pills and see if it helps to start my period.

If not (and I am still cramping), at least when I go to see a doctor after it will give them more incentive to look further in to whats wrong with me.
