Did I have a miscarriage?

Hi. I have a question that I hope somebody can answer for me.  This is my first pregnancy. A week ago, after being 2 1/2 weeks late for my period, I took a pregnancy test and it was positive. 3 days later I started bleeding bright red blood and had some light cramping. I don't have a doctor yet so I went to the ER.  There they tested my HCG levels and I had an ultrasound and vaginal sonogram.  My hcg level was 859, however the u/s and sonogram showed nothing. The tech said there was an "unusual amount" of blood in my uterus. The doctor said due to my levels I might be very early in the pregnancy, and to test my hcg in 3-5 days again.  The next night, I started bleeding heavily, and had severe cramps. I passed several clots and then a large grayish mass passed. The ab pain went away but I continued to bleed all weekend, with many more clots. Now it is Monday. I went in to the doctor again today. He said it sounded like a miscarriage, and tested my hcg level again. It is now up over 2000, which he said would be progressing normally.  He wants be to come back in 3 days for another blood test. Has anyone had this happen to them?  I feel like I lost it, but I am hopeful all the same.  I just want to know one way or another!  Thank you!

Is there any way you can req a vag u/s while you are waiting to have your blood drawn? I know you are going through alot right now. It's a nightmare. Keep your chin up. If you don't feel satisfied get a 2nd opinion. Don't put your health and situation on hold there are pleny of other dr's out there. I'm here if you need to talk. Best wishes to you and your baby.

Well, my follow up Hcg test after 3 days was only 2134. The doctor wasn't very helpful, just said i'm pregnant and if i keep bleeding get another ultrasound. but the levels should have at least doubled over those 72 hours. From my research i'm concerned its either ectopic or an incomplete misscarriage. I'm going back for one more hcg test next week to see where its at and what i need to do after that. I just want to know for sure...all this uncertainty is making me an emotional wreck!

I don't want to fill you full of false hope, however I'm the furthest thing from negative. I'm so optomistic. I would def talk to your dr about the cramps causing vomiting but the vomiting could be a side affect of the pg. As for cramps I have had them everyday of my pg. My biggest advice to you is stop the research what you always read is not always accurate. Statistics are percents averages you may not be the normal average situation. You just never know what happens in pg and you can't base your situation on someone elses. I would def stay on medhelp and keep getting the support and ask questions and read other stories from women who have suffered losses or success stories first hand. Low progesterone can be detected in a blood draw your dr may put you on pills or vaginal suppositories. It does not always assure the pg will continue but it helps. If you are waiting for ins that should not be a reason for a dr not to see you. Most insurance companies will retro the coverage if you can get the company name you can call them and work something out or some dr's will hold the bills until you submitt the ins info. Most offices will not turn prenatal care away. Keep your chin up and think positive. Try to relax and take it easy until thursday. I'm here if you need to talk! Good luck and keep me posted.

Army Princess,

Thank you for the reply.  Im anxiously awaiting my appt. on Thursday to see how my levels are progressing.  What has me the most worried was that cramping. It was so painful I was actually throwing up!  My husband and I tried for 3 years to get pregnant. We just moved to a new area, and I don't have a doctor here yet, but my last doctor diagnosed me with having low progesterone and wanted to put me on a fertility drug. I was waiting until my insurance kicked in at my new job here before I found a new doctor here. I feel the fact that I'm pregnant at all, naturally, is a miracle in itself. Im just praying that it continues to be so!  Do you know anything about low progesterone levels during pregnancy?  In some of my online research it seems to me that low levels of progesterone can increase your risk of a miscarriage?

Anyways, good luck to you as well. When is your due date?

I'm sorry you are going through this. Yes in fact I went through the same thing with this pg at 12 wks I bleed and clotted everyday for 6 wks. I was diagnosed with a sub chroniac hematoma my dr seemed to think the bleed was caused by the placenta growing etc. My bleed didn't dissolve and was out growing my baby and not allowing my placenta to move up. It was quite scary. Over time the hematoma shrank. My current dr is not convinced it is gone completely but at this point it is not affecting my pg etc. I'm now 35 wks. Usually you can see the baby if your levels are in the thousands. I would req one soon and keep having your levels checked. I would obstain from bd and try to take it easy. Rest as much as possible. Keep your chin up I know this is a nightmare but just keep telling yourself everything is okay your numbers are high. Bleeding is common especially early in pg. Please keep me posted. Good luck and best wishes to you! I'm here if you need to talk.
