Embryo at 6 1/2 weeks

I went to the dr for my first ulrasound at 6 1/2 weeks, last tuesday. I had had hcg levels done twice prior to the ultrasound and the numbers were doubling as they were supposed to. When we did the ultrasound the sac was seen but not the embryo. The doctor seemed very sure that this was an ended pregnancy but said we could recheck in a week. Has anyone been through this and gone back and seen an embryo or am I silly to think theres hope?

you might not be as far along as you think,  you could hve ovulated a few days later and that would make it very possible not to see much early at 6 weeks.  i would wait a week and go back.

I had an early u/s at 5 weeks 4 days (due to a previous miscarriage). I was horrified when the u/s tech said she the gs was measuring at only 4 weeks 3 days and there was no baby yet. I, not so patiently, waited for 2 weeks to have another u/s done. Low and behold the baby was there and measuring to date. You just never know!

I just had a u/s done a week and a half ago! I'm 6 weeks and 3 days and the tech saw nothing told me it could be a eptopic etc. Well the er doc was mad tech's do not have the medical training docs do. So when I went to my obgyn he stated he was not worried our numbers in pg need to be at least 2000 before you can see anything on an u/s. I'm waiting to see if the bleeding I had last weekend was my pregnancy ending or just a fluke nightmare. I would get your blood retested and try to see if you can have anothe u/s done! But ask what your numbers are and check with your ob if they are where they are supposed to be. In my latest experience your numbers go down when the pregnancy ends not rise and that is why my doc has me in limbo. My numbers aren't going down and the pathology report read inconclusive it was not fetal tissue so who knows some of us women just have crazy pregnancies and go on to have beautiful healthy babies. Best wishes and best of luck! I hope this helped alittle!!!!!

I am not telling you this to give you false hope, but about 5 years ago when I became pregnant with my son the dr. told me that they didn't see the baby.  I had to go back every 2 days for blood work and ultrasounds.  I cried for days!  When one day there he was!! For some reason they said that I must have ovulated at a different date than I thought...You are still early, so I would wait and see what the u/s shows next week...I hope the best for you though, I lost my angel at 9w3d last month and I wish that nobody ever has to go through that...let us know what happens :)

I know how it feels to be pregnant for a couple of weeks and the next day you're not. I had my hsg in April 2008, got pregnant in May. Everything was ok in terms of my morning sickness, headache, and all the signs of pregnancy. Until about 9w and 4d, I had my very first Ultrasound and we found out that there was no embryo but just the sac. The next day I was at the hospital for my d & c.  2 days before my first ultrasound I have noticed that my morning sickness had stopped, my appetite came back, the water tasted just fine again. My worries begun and after the ultrasound my husband and I hugged each other and cried. It was so upsetting but life doesn't stop there, we'll try again if it's not meant for us to have another (second) child then fine at least we tried hard enough.

Hi, I know how you feel, I went for a scan on thursday hoping to be 10-12 weeks, only 6.5 and they couldnt detect a heartbeat with a vaginal scan. They have advised to expect the worse. I am going back next Thursday to double check.
I have dark mucus that coming away gradually but not sure what to expect when and if I eventually miscarry. We can only hope.

Yes I went through it on friday.  I had a Blighted Ovum-just a sac no embryo.  I was suppose to be 13 weeks.  I had a d and c on Monday.  this has to be the most hardest thing my husband and I have been through.  I don't know how to feel one minute you are pregnant and the next you are not.  I had all the signs of morning sickness etc.  It made me realize how fragile life really is. I will ttc in about three months and i am hoping for the best.  Good Luck to you and I pray that your next ultrasound is better.  And it is not silly to hope that is all we have.

you are not silly. A couple of years ago i went in when i thought i was 8  weeks and they showed me my baby and thats it. they didnt tell me that my baby wasnt alive anymore, and didnt say if i had a sac. they told me to go to my doctor after that and I did and my doc did a blood test 2 days apart and said my hormone levels were dropping and that meant i had miscarried. I went back in after my D&C and asked if there was anything wrong with my uterus and my doc just said my uterus was fine but nothing else. I never thought about there may have been no sac, and I never thought of asking that

This wasn't my personal experience, but I also spend a fair amount of time on the 35+ pregnancy forum, and have heard this story alot!!  Many women there did not see much of anything until 7 weeks or even a bit later.  Things happen so quickly at this stage and even a few days can make a difference.

If your HCG levels are doubling, that is a great sign.  Reasons for the embryo not being seen yet are many.  The quality of the equipment and the tech.  Your dates could be off.  Even if you are absolutely certain of your LMP dates, ovulation could be late, implanation can take anywhere from 6 to 10 days, etc. etc.   I am not sure if this is your first pregnancy or not, but remember that when they say you are 6 1/2 weeks, thats from first day of your LMP.  That means they sort of assume everyone has a 28 day cycle and ovulates on day 14.  For lots of women that is certainly not the case. You are in that horrible "wait and see time".  I know it well, and I wish there was a better answer for you.  Stay positive.  Your next ultrasound will tell you what you need to know.  I wish you all the best, and hope all turns out well for you.
