blight ovum or too early to tell

I found out I was pregnant December 14 and my ob wanted an ultrasound to see how far along I am due to irregular cycles and because I have high blood pressure.  Yesterday during the ultrasound the tech said he didn't see anything, but said at one point he saw just a small speck.  He didn't do a vag. Ultrasound just an abdominal one.  This is my first pregnancy and now I am terrified that it is a blight ovum.  I have occasional mild cramps but no bleeding and I have pregnancy symptoms.  I would love some input please to hopefully ease my mind or prepare me for the worst.

it maybe just to early to see, they should have done a vaginal u/s and that would have given a more clearer picture of where your at, although if your less than 4 weeks  nothing  would have shown even with that, try not to get too worried, you prob should have a couple of blood tests done to check how your hcg levels are rising, if they are doubling every 48/72 hrs then at this point there is nothing to worry about, they need to rise by a minimum of 60% early in pregnancy for it to be viable, you should also have another scan in around 1-2 weeks time and this should show a big difference, good luck

No.  I haven't been scheduled for a repeat ultrasound.  The tech said my ob would contact me in the next day or so.  It just feels like forever and I'm really good at working myself up about stuff.  Thanks.

My opinion is that the only way to know for sure is to do a repeat u/s.  Sinced you said that you have irregular cycles, there's no way to know how far along you should be.  When was your last period?  It may just be too early to see anything besides the sac if you're only 4-5 weeks along.   Have you been scheduled for a repeat?
