Problems after miscarriage

My daughter in law (23 and healthy) had an early miscarriage (3-4 weeks) about 1 month ago. She is also vegetarian and the mother of a 9 month old, breastfeeding beautiful baby. She started her period again on Thursday night (8/20). She is still bleeding and quite heavily, 6 days later. She is also feeling very tired. Her knees are also giving her pain. Not much appetite either. Midwife told her to take Aleve to slow the bleeding, and that she may be anemic. Any comments or suggestions? Will she return to normal soon? She is worried that something worse may be the cause. Thanks.

The tiredness and knee pain and all sound like she could be losng too much blood.  Only a cbc will tell where the hemoglobin is at....is she still taking prenatal vitamins?  That might help but she does need to at least call her doc.  They've told me that the first period after miscarriage may be heavier because the uterus walls will be thickened more...so that could explain the heavy bleeding but definetly check with a doc...

After my MC I was bleeding very heavily and was passing large clots. I had to change my pad about every 30 mins and sometimes less. I called my doc immediately and they took me right away for an US and immediately and I was sent in for a second D&C. I had not completely been cleaned out the first time. After the second D&C I felt great and was bleeding for maybe 2-3 days. I would seek medical help - too much bleeding can cause infections I think. Goo Luck!
