hcg level decrease then increase

Monday October 4th my hcg level was 25000 at 5 weeks...I had some bright red bleeding but NO cramping around 3am Tues Oct 5 and went to the ER. The doc did a pelvic exam and said my cervix was closed and no sign of tissue and sent me hom on bedrest until I could see my gyno later that day. That same day I went to the dr and he did an us which showed the baby but a clot behind the placenta. He said that it could be fine but we were just going to keep an eye on it. He said my placenta may have detached some which could have caused it and the bleeding. I got hcg levels drawn that day as well and the next day was told they had decreased to 13000. So 25000 Monday and 13000 Tuesday. HUGE drop. He said I would miscarry within a week...I waited and waited and still no miscarriage by Wed. Oct 13. No cramping, spotting, nothing! So they had me do another level and it came back Thursday Oct. 14...my level was now...24000 and I'm 6w6d! From things Ive heard and read that is near impossible? He did another us that thursday and there was a heartbeat but on the slower side and my levels of course hadnt doubled which is cause for concern. There is also the bleeding behind the placenta, he didnt really say how much, but that I'm def. not considered a healthy pregnancy. I go back weekly now for an us to check for a heartbeat. I just want to know if anyone else has experienced this? What could have caused my levels to drop than increase again? So weird!

Well I went and got another us and he seen a yolk sac but it was moving around a bit and he couldnt pinpoint a heartbeat. The bleeding behind the placenta is almost completely gone. But now I have to go back in a week to look for a heartbeat. These poor docs AND poor me. I havent had a textbook pregnancy OR a textbook miscarriage for that part! Expecting the worst but hoping for the best. The story of the month of October for me.

Hope everything works out for you... it sounds like there is still hope so hold on to the positives and rest as your doc suggested! Also, don't hesitate to go to the ER if you start bleeding and/or experiencing pain. Keep us updated, k?

i've heard that they can do that if you get preg w/ twins and one of them dies.  I've also heard that it can do that if it's a missed m/c.  But with seeing a heartbeat, it's not a missed m/c.  Did your doc explain anything, like why?? or what he thought?  sometimes it's hard to get anything out of the doc tho except we'll just have to wait and see...seems like the mantra of early pregnancy.  Congrats and good luck!
