miscarriage or ectopic pg

My numbers have not doubled since I discovered I was pregant (at what we thought was 4 weeks, but could have been 2 weeks). I am now at 5 weeks and the hcg numbers have still not doubled. However, they have been going up but not very much. I had an ultrasound and was told it could be too early to tell, but they would watch my hcg. At my last US and HCG, my doctor called me in to discuss ectopic pregnancy. The night before my appointment, I began spotting (none on my underwear, but on the tp). Over the next day, I noticed what looked like tiny streaks with little clots inside. The doctor said I might already be having the miscarriage, but I should take the shot to abort that day. I declined and asked him to monitor my numbers for another week. I stopped taking progesterone suppositories and this time my hcg only went up by 8. I think it may be levelling off and hope to see it go down. The shot has risks and I don't want them. Has anyone experienced this. Do you think I will start to have a heavier flow within a few days? I don't want to risk future pgs but I am afraid of that shot.

No. I do not really have pain. When I first became pregnant, I felt a little pain and discomfort now and then, but since have only had bloating when I need to use the bathroom (sorry TMI). I have spotted a little here and there and had one cramp a couple of days ago, but have still not bled. If my doctors hadn't told me I was miscarrying or have an ectopic pg, I would still think I was having a normal pg. Thanks for your response.

I'm so sorry....I always have low rising hcg levels sometimes it's ends with a m/c and sometimes it doesn't. At 5 wks it's common to have low numbers but they should start to catch up and begin to double. It still may be too soon to see anything in a u/s. I would continue to have your blood checked to see if the pg is progressing or if it is ending to make sure the numbers go to zero so there is no future confusion if you beging ttc again.. Usually with an eptopic pg there is alot of pain and most times it's unbearable and there is often swelling of the abdomen. Are you having any pain etc? If your numbers continue to go down you will begin to bleed I'm just not sure when. I would def continue to get checked out. Especially where your dr couldn't officially diagnose you. I wish I could be more help. I'm here if you need to talk. Take care and good luck...
