D&C 12 weeks after no period

I had a missed miscarriage at 11 weeks and the Dr recommended a D&C.  I got that on sept 8 with no complications. Had minimum bleeding for almost 2 weeks w/no cramping.  When I went to 2 week follow up appt dr didn't do exam just asked if I was in pain or still bleeding.  Now its been almost 12 weeks and still no period :/  I get cramps that make me think for sure I will get it and then nothing.  I called dr a couple weeks ago and he said they don't start worrying till after 3 months.  I am worried! Anyone else have or know someone w/same problem??????

Thank you everyone for your advice! I went to the docs on Dec 1 and he sent me for a preg test which came back negative.  Now he wrote me a prescription for birth control to try to make my period come.  I asked if I should be worried and he said as long as the test came back negative no.  He told me to come back in 3 months! I was so mad when I left the docs! He has not done an ultrasound since the d&c.  He said the lining may have to build back up and that's what's taking so long but why is he not checking the lining through ultrasound?????? I was thinking about giving it a month on birth control and then switching docs.

First I am sorry to hear about your loss. I also had 5 miscarriages and pending one right now.

WOW. You have not had a period in 12 weeks? Let me ask you a few questions. Have you had any discharge? any urge to use the restroom more then normal? Does it hurt when u use the restroom? How bad is the cramping?

The doctor is SUPPOSED TO DO A ULTRASOUND right away the d&c. This is usually done about 1-3 days after the d&c. So, from what I read it sounds like he-she did not do a ultrasound? This is something they do so that they can make sure that all the tissues is gone. If its not all removed then you can have some serious infection and can cause inferitilty. NOt, saying this is your cause but please have a ultrasound and as a matter of fact demand one. I am sorry you are going thur this and it sounds like u may want to try and find another doctor and get a 2nd opinion.

Let me know if your able to get a ultrasound ok. Also they are supposed to do another blood count if the patient has any problems. This also will red flag the doctor that there may be something else going on.

Good luck and never give up!

I also had a D&C in May and when my period didn't come for 8 weeks, my doctor put me on Provera to bring it on. That seemed to work, it's been somewhat normal since.
I'm so sorry you had to go thru it. Take care.

Thank you so much for replying! It is frustrating reading that some people go right back to normal and then you get thinking something is wrong.  I have a doc appt this wed so I will be asking a lot of questions! It makes me feel better that someone else has experienced this similiar to what I am, although its a terrible thing for anyone to experience.

Hi, I'm so sorry for your loss.  I too had a D&C, I was 12 weeks.  It was about 14 weeks before I got anything remotely like a period and then it was very very scant, the next period took over 40 days to arrive.  It took a while for my periods to settle into a regular rhythm once I did start getting them.

It's very frustrating, especially when you scan the internet and see that most women get back on track fairly quickly.  I also had the cramping that had me thinking my period was coming but it didn't.

If you still haven't had a period by 3 months they will probably suggest putting you on a birth-control pill to stimulate your hormones.  Hopefully you won't have to do that and I really hope your period shows up soon.
