wierd spotting weeks after miscarriage?

Hello,
I had a natural miscarriage on 2/5/11 (the day I turned 8 weeks). Both the doctor and I were confident that I passed everything, but I won't get into the gory details. HCG was back to 0 less than a week after the loss. Had a follow up exam and all looked fine, bleeding stopped after a week and cervix was closed. Felt fine physically.

On Friday 2/25, 20 days after the miscarriage I started having what looked like implantation bleeding (same as I had with the last baby) - pink, barely there, only on tp when I wiped. This has continued on for the last week, except twice after straining in bathroom (tmi sorry) it turned bright red. The first time it went red it lasted for about 3 hours and left a streak on my pad, thought it was my first AF coming early and had just started wierd with the days of spotting. But like I said, then it stopped after 3 hours. Second time it went red it was only there for the duration of wiping and then never came back except to return to the pink spotting. I called my ob/gyn for a beta hcg just incase we had conceived again, but it was negative. I have an appt to see her on Tuesday to try and figure out what is going on because this spotting is driving me nuts. I have been incredibly emotional as well, crying at everything for no reason even though I feel fine and feel I've dealt with the loss. I'm anxious for my first AF to return so we can get back to TTC. I'm 36 and we had been trying for a baby since 2007, so losing the one we finally achieved was horrific to say the least. Has anyone had anything like this happen with the weird spotting a couple weeks after everything went back to normal? I'm just looking for some reassurance that this happens occassionally because I'm scared something is now wrong with me and I don't have a lot of time to waste.

Thank you for your input/help.. and I am very sorry to each of you who has suffered a loss.

I too just finished my first AF. I miscarried at 6w3d on Jan 30, bleeding lasted until Feb 11. On Feb 24 I started my  or what I think was my first AF. It seemed different then my experience from Jan 30- Feb 11th. This seemed to be more like a period.
Last May I had my first MC and for about 2-3 months after I had random bleeding that was much like you had described. The good news is, it only took a few months to get back on track and a few months after (6) I was pregnant again. To answer you question, yes this is completely normal, your body is just getting rid of some of the leftover tissue (which is a good thing) to make room for a new baby and sometimes our bodies take longer then we'd like them to. I know it is a tough wait, but it really will work itself out!

Good luck to you, I am sure that in a couple months time your body will be ready to conceive again- if not sooner!

The first AF after any trauma can be different than ones that you have had in the past.  Definitely keep your appointment with the dr, but know that it doesn't necessarily mean that something is wrong.  I had a forced m/c (cornual blighted ovum - had to have methotrexate) but it passed naturally as well, and my AF after was more painful and longer than any I've ever had before.  Hopefully this is just a sign that your AF will be continuing normal next month and you can try again!  Sticky baby dust to you!!
