ANTIBODY TEST RESULTS

Hey Everyone!

I'm still searching for answers and everytime I go to a Doc they find something new.  Last time I posted it was after they did my LP, to help dx the ms.  Came up neg for MS but they found that my spinal pressure was high 278 so they dx me with Psuedotumor Cerebri, or Intercranial Hypertension.  They have also been watching my thyroid nodules.  Have about 7 or 8 one in particular they were concerned with was a large one toward the back against my throat, but they are all benign.  Last ultrasound, they said the thyroid is enlarged, so my endo decided to do some lab work.

He was checking the antibodies for thyroglobulin and peroxidase. The peroxidase antibody came back positve, the number was 315.  So my question is, is this an autoimmune and does this have anything to do  with the lupus, and MS,  My endo put me on synthyroid to shrink the nodules and it worked, they are shinking, but do I need a med for  the antibody autoimmune thyroid now.

Hope you guys can help.  These docs are finding out everything else except whether I have ms.

Thanks
Sandie

Hi Sandie,

The presence of the peroxidase antibody does point to an autoimmune response..but not to Lupus or MS. In autoimmune disorders, your immune system makes antibodies that mistakenly attack normal tissue. Antibodies that attack the thyroid gland cause inflammation and impaired function of the thyroid and can lead to diseases such as Hashimoto's disease or Graves' disease.

Some people without thyroid disease may have TPO (thyroid peroxidase) antibodies. However, the presence of thyroid peroxidase antibodies may increase the risk of future thyroid disorders. If you have normal thyroid function with TPO antibodies, your doctor may recommend periodic checkups to watch for future thyroid problems.

Do you know if they drew a TSH blood panel as well or was this normal or abnormal as well? These autoimmune diseases will do so much damage to the thyroid that it will lead to hypothyroidism.

Hope this helps
