Schedule changes

This world can be amazing, for better or for worse.

My weekday boss told me (Sunday, via reply to my text message) not to worry about this week, that he would take care of the paperwork to cover my time while I am taking care of Loretta's final arrangements.  The county has a benefit program that allows employees to donate sick time to their coworkers if those coworkers have exhausted all of their accumulated leave, and if the donating employee reserves at least three weeks in their own account after such donation.  With my illnesses and Loretta's, I've been on the receiving end of that benefit for a while now.  This morning, our department supervisor called to point out that the benefit policy does not allow the use of donated sick leave for bereavement leave, unless the employee's doctor asserts that the employee needs to be off during that time for their own health reasons.  A phone call to the doctor followed immediately; the nice lady there didn't think Dr. R would have a problem writing a letter to that effect.

I've arranged to get my neuro-psych testing done tomorrow afternoon.  The assistant who schedules this (exclusively) was off on Monday, but I reached her this morning to snatch up one of the two cancellation slots that hit their schedule this week.

Because of this, I will brunch with my two youngest siblings on the way to that appointment.  They both wanted to break bread sometime this week, and they are kinda sorta on the way there.

Shalom.

Just as a stone throne into the water creates ripples that move throughout the pond, I believe that we, in life, also create ripples - for good and bad - that move throughout those around us.  I'm pleased that your good ripples are bringing you some ease for your journey.  Your coworkers have given you a great gift, your doctor will help with the time you need, a cancellation will allow you to move on with your medical process and you will get to see your sibs.  You deserve all this and I am glad to see you get it.

You will remain in my thoughts as you get through this hard time.

Thank you all again.

My employer, the county, can be great and horrible on the same day, as can my boss.  The department supervisor, though, is one of those people for whom we develop pet names that they never hear.  Oops, did I say that out loud?

Nothing like working somewhere that has rules that can't be broken.....  I'm sorry you hit that snag in the system.  It certainly seems all wrong to me.

Peace,
Laura

It is nice to hear that some secular employers have a heart.
