Backs

Several months ago I got a thing to help wash my back, but it seems very flimsy and to not work very good. Or at least that is the way it seems to me. The plastic handle bends when I am trying to wash the middle of my back and I don't really feel it against my back in that area. So either it is not touching my back in that case or I just don't have enough feeling there to feel it.

As a result I am thinking of buying another thing to wash my back but not sure what I should look for. I sure don't want to waste my money on something that won't work. Today while I was doing some shopping I checked out what they had in the store. The ones they had seemed pretty short buy the did have several types. Some had a sponge like thing on the end of a wooden handle, others were a thicker plastic handle with a brush on the end. So what works best?

As long as we are talking backs, what about back scratchers? Currently I am using the end of a long handled shoe horn to do this but find that some areas the shoe horn won't get to due to the width of the end of it.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Dennis

Thanks for the info. I went to Amazon to see what they had which consisted of way to many back straps types. They even had one Loofah that required 4 AAA batteries. I have not yet ordered one as I haven't made up my mind on which one to get. It doesn't help that one Loofah product that was one a wooden handle had this long health warning listed. Something about no using it one areas that have open or irritated skin. They also had some that were made of some other material that is from some type of cactus. They were the only ones that users had rated.

BTW just for kicks I did do a search with just "back strap" under Goggle and the results were not bad in the slightest. The listings mostly were about deer  as the loin on a deer is referred to as Back Strap. the only other thing was for some sandals.

Thanks again.

Better make that "back strap loofah" or "loofah back strap".  No telling what you'll get otherwise!!

Bairdy is right about a loofah being good.  I've been thinking about looking for a long braided one rather than anything on a stick.  I used to see them all the time when I wasn't actually interested in buying one.

If you search online under the name "back strap" you'll find a variety of styles and materials used to make a tool you can use for cleaning, exfoliating or scratching your back.  They are usually at least 30" long and have some sort of flexible rope handle on each end.  They are used the same way a towel is to dry your back using a see-saw motion.  That seems more stable to me than the one handed handle devise.

If you are handy (or know someone who is) it would be pretty easy to make something similar for yourself.  Get as fancy as you want or put a simple hem in long strips of terrycloth fabric.  The beauty in that is you can customize the size.  This type could also be tossed in the washer with your regular towels.  (Can't do that with a handle!)

I've found two back scratchers I like (both on ebay at the time).  If you are looking for a wide tool, have a look at something called the MaxScratcher.  It has a large area filled with nubs of plastic.  It has a WONDERFUL feel and controls the itch without destroying my skin.  Its more expensive than most back scratchers but oh so worth it.

The other one I like is much smaller.  It has a claw type scratching surface a little over an inch wide on the end of a telescoping metal rod.  Closed, it fits in my purse.  Open, it can stretch out more than 26".  It gets a little flimsy at that length but manages to reach almost any spot needing a scratch and can't be beat for portability.

Happy shopping Dennis,
Mary
