Leg pain specific to heel with leg spasicity

I was diagonosed with early MS in December 2008.  Two brain lesions, shadow third.  Facial numbness, tingling of face, arm, leg all left side.  Constant left temporal headache whcih vaires in intensity on random basis.  visual focus disrupted randomly.  slurred speach and slowed cognitive function at times.  Fatigue constant.  49 year old male, always healthy int he past.  Neurologis put me on Depekote 500 ER which softens headaches but nothing else.

Left leg heel pain comes and goes. spasms in leg come and go.  tiredness of left leg begoming an issue and gait is evvected.  At times the pain in my heel & calf is unbearable....I can hardly walk some days.  I see my neurologist in June.  Is the heel pain associated with my MS?  Reasonable to get back to my neurologist earlierthan June?

Thanks for your reply.

Hi and welcome to our forum!  You have a couple questions and I have one.

You were diagnosed with MS and your only med is gabapentin??  Where is the Disease Modifying Drug??  Are you diagnosed with RRMS?  Have your symptoms arrived in distinct attacks?

The calf and heel pain might be secondary to spasticity in that leg.  Or you might have an injury to the Achilles Tendon.  June is far too long to go without some evaluation of the leg.  My recommendation would be to write a letter describing the pain and the limitation and ask your doctor if he needs to see you or if he would recommend a physical therapy evaluation.  A good PT can tell you if this is a problem with the tendon being injured or foreshortened or if there appears to be spasticity in the calf.  Then fax the letter to the neuro's office.  That way there is a hard copy of the problem in your chart.  Keep a copy in your own files.

I have MS with all of my weakness and spasticity in my right side.  Just in the last couple months I have had pain in my right heel and spasms in the right calf.  I can't seem to get it stretched out, so I need to get it evaluated too.

Welocme again.
