BioIdentical Hormones and Biometic Vitamins

Just wanted to see if anyone here has used either of these?  I started on the BioIdentical hormones a week ago when I got back from Mayo.  I read that it is beneficial for MS and was feeling really good, but then got a little over zealous during a photoshoot ( a 30 minute photo shoot) where I was getting in and out of the car a lot to take pictures (it was cold) and today woke up back at square one with my legs weak and my walk all messed up again.

I ordered the Biometic vitamins because I also heard they were really good, so I am going to start them tomorrow and see how I do on them.

I am so tired of not getting any help, so I thought I would try and help myself.

OH, ok..I did not know that.  Then it might not be the best idea to take them. That would explain why I felt so weird with the last deal one of my friends had me try.  She had me drinking some kind of health drink and I felt sick the same day I took it so I never did it again! Thank you!

MS is an over reaction of the immune system so no like cancer it does not need boosting. I have many well meaning friends in natural health fields who want me to take something or do something. I do not even try to explain I just say I have discussed it with my Neurologist thank you for caring. They mean well.

I do apologize if my question about the hormones seemed to request too much information.  You certainly have legitimate needs.  My thoughts were prompted by so much recent celebrity hype about bioidentical hormones.  They make them sound like harmless water from the fountain of youth.

Thanks for asking your questions though.  I started several supplements over the past 12-18 months in an attempt to self treat my symptoms when doctors weren't offering much.  I probably need to rethink some of them now that I'm diagnosed.  Wouldn't want to be too healthy ;)

No, don't try to boost your immune system. It doesn't need boosting, to say the least. I know your friend is well-meaning, but there's no evidence that any of these things helps anyone.

Mary is right that you don't want to muddy the waters at this point. And Alex is right too--what you need is a healthful diet. That will be good no matter what happens.

I think you are right, I might not need to add a bunch to my plate until I spend time with just one thing to see how it works.  I take hormones because I had a hysterectomy at age 22, a complete one after my second child I had difficulties that required it.

I think maybe I will go with changing the diet first and go from there.  How do I get back into exercising? It seems every time I try to exercise, even slightly, I spend the next several days having trouble walking.

Thanks for responding!  A girlfriend of mine sells the Biometics and she swears byt hem and said they would be great for MS because she took them due to cancer and they really helped her immune system.  Do I need to stay away from boosting the immune system?  I have not started them yet, I was going to start tonight with the PM ones because they have melatonin and valerian in them and thought it might help me sleep.  I don't want to make myself worse!!

Alex's plan sounds basic and proven.  I've never heard of Biometic vitamins.  I don't believe Bioidentical hormones are any better or safer than other HRT.  At your age I'm wondering if there is a specific need for hormone supplements.

Also, I'd be careful of adding too many variables to your health cocktail if you are just beginning to deal with MS.  Add more than one thing at a time and you can't be sure what might be helping and what is not, or worse yet, what's hindering.

When they first said MS in 2007 I changed my diet and started exercising more.

You  have got to be careful with the supplements and vitamins. I was on a long list because of my chronic Mononucleosis. My Neurologist even though he had the full list did not realize it. When I brought it up he said no to everything except Vitamin D.  In MS you do not want to stimulate the immune system.

Who claims the Biometic vitamins are good for MS? A lot of people make claims you have to take with a grain of salt.

I go with a good diet. I eat every kind of fresh fruit and vegetable, whole grains, nuts, sardines and organic grass fed meat. I have high Vitamin levels with out supplements. Water is my drink of choice. I adjusted my diet slowly. I used to love fast food.

I have perfect blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, etc. since changing my diet three years ago. There is not much that can be done for my MS but I can be in the best shape otherwise.
