JJ,
You said exactly what I meant about my speech, minus the drunken slur part. I also don't get the tonal variation, just the softening (volume) variation. But what kills me is that it sounds just a loud to me when I am speaking very softly. I often wonder just what causes the low volume and why does it sound just as loud to me?
Dennis
Dennis,
My verbal is more like a slurred drunken stutter, i get stuck forming the different sounds, happens anywhere within words, and the more syllables a word has the harder it can be to get it out, the next sound just sticks and it doesn't want to come out correctly eg
"y E sssss_thhhhhhh A tssS_rIghh T" (yes thats right)
There's no point in trying to force the sounds out because It's stuck, lol can't get out of it before running out of breath, i have to stop and start with the next sound to continue the word or I stop and try saying it again, if it's ground hog day, i'll often try an easier word instead. Fatigue and hot weather bring it on but so does talking, only thing to get it back for a bit is resting...
Articulation definitely sounds off but my voice quality is all over the place too, sometimes i go to speak and my voice is completely gone or it only comes out like i'm whispering. I get called sir when it goes deep or rough lol people also assume i'm a sick with a sore throat or head cold when it goes hollow or nasally lol though i still talk expecting normal doh.
Honestly, some times speaking is just way to hard....
Cheers.......JJ
JJ,
I loved the reading jumbled word thing. And I had absolutely no problem reading it. Which really surprised me. LOL But it actually reminded me about a girl I knew when I lived in Florida. She had been in a bad auto accident and they actually had to remove small part of her brain to save her life. Since then when ever she gets over tired she will mix up word when talking, like the dishwasher for fridge, etc. But I have been doing the same thing myself. Well we would be sitting talking to each other with no problem understand what each other was saying. But then we would realize the others at the table had become very quite and we would see a look of complete puzzlement on all of their faces. Due to the scrambling up of words they had no idea at all of what we were saying, but the girl and I understood everything we said to each other. It was like our messed you brains were some how scrambling thing up to put it back together as they were meant to be. I'm not sure if that made any sense or not so let me put it this way. She would say dishwasher when she meant fridge, but I would hear fridge instead of dishwasher. We would end up laughing like crazy every time this happened.
I did leave off one item from the list of brain games, that being speech. I'm glad you brought that up JJ. With em I get those times when I can't think of the next word I was going to say. But what really bothers me is when I forget how to pronounce some simple word. This happens more than the forgetting a word thing with me. I have even had this happen when I have just a minute or so earlier said the word with no problem. I end up sounding like I have a stutter as I try time and again to say the word.
Dennis
I'm still substituting 'dishwasher' lol i'm definitely getting better at catching it before it's verbalised but I'm often left staring at the object, whilst i'm mentally trying to work out the right noun for the object i'm trying to name. Which is not dissimilar to the pauses that spring up, when the next word in a sentence just disappears off the tip of your tongue and you can't for the life of you, find it again..
Alex, more than half my life ago i would inexplicably say 'par cark' which I hadn't a clue i had said, until someone told me or laughed thinking i was being daft, it wasn't habitual just weirdly unexpected when ever it occurred.
More recently i've been encountering audio bloopers when i'm listening to people with an accent, which didn't use to happen, not enough to be a problem mind you, but it is kind of hard to miss me cracking up laughing over something really unexpected ie a community service advert, a boy with an accent is talking about the ladies from Pyjama Angel's who've helped him learn to read and speak more clearly but i always hear.....Vagina Angel's and it still cracks me up each time the ad airs :D
Once you've cracked the reading code, written sentences can have missing or added vowels, missing spaces between words, numbers replacing some letters etc and your brain automatically corrects so it will make sense and normal. eg
"For emaxlpe, it deson’t mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod aepapr, the olny iprmoatnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer are in the rghit pcale. The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit pobelrm."

I can still do this easily (dyslexic adult daughter always struggles to work it out) but retaining newly read information is still a big problem, not as bad as when everything i read wasn't even holding in my short term memory longer than a goldfishes 3 seconds lol still i'm staying focused on getting back or holding on to as much as possible, any way I can....
The cognitive stuff is bad enough but throw in my verbal communication issues and the brain games are a pain in my.......lol you get the picture :D

Corrie,
Yes that is/was my impression about the "beds" vs Beads" is that my mind just picks a word that is somewhat like the real word. But at other times the word I read is no where near what the real word is. In those cases it seems like the relationship between the words is more to do with what kind of object I am reading about. Wish I could think of an actual example that has happened to me right now. But it may be I'm reading about a coffee maker, but my mind will turn it into something like griddle since they are both kitchen appliances. I guess that is why it is so confusing to me. Oh and I'll do the same thing when talking where I'll switch words for things like saying dishwasher when I really was talking about a fridge.
Dennis
Good topic Dennis! I routinely have issues reading. I see the words and because I recognize the letters it is like my brain jumps to conclusions and throws a word at me even if it isn't the right word. It will have the right letters though.
Very frustrating because I don't trust myself reading at work. Sometimes I read an e-mail 2-3 times and still can't seem to wrap my mind around the content. I think I understand it and then read it again and find out I was still misreading something.
I sometimes hear things that aren't there but that tends to only happen when I'm tired (I don't have any MS related hearing issues just some scar tissue with slight hearing loss that I have had since a child with severe ear infections).
I do occasionally wonder about smells because I seem to always smell like something is burning. I'm paranoid about fire though so I chalk it up to that or maybe I am too close to the TV and it's been on too long. :)

I used to eye sight issues but not the other. Sometimes when I talk I switch the first consenants of words. I got in trouble in boarding school when I said this is our new head baster Mr.Masset.
