I checked in with her tonight and we chatted for about 15 minutes. She sounds stronger and was clear thinking.  But she says she is missing big gaps of memory.  She doesn't remember much since December - I assured her that we definitely talked often during that time and I would try to remember for her - and she got a big laugh from that.

Her pain is no where near under control, but she said she is reminding herself constantly that people don't die from pain.

DJ did give me a message to deliver to all of you - if only I could remember it!! LOL

Seriously, she said she would be back here and checking up on how everyone else is doing once she gets relocated in Pennsylvania.  I don't doubt that she will!

as always, L

Thanks a lot for the update, wow, she is some kind of miracle.   Thanks for giving her mymessage.  I am doing pretty good, just not felt so good and I don't really know what to add on here recently.  And my eyes have not been good, they are always healing it seems.

much love to you, Sweetie

Hi Lulu,
Thanks again for the update on Dear DJ. I hope the doctors can find out the infection she has and start the proper medication for her illness.
When i have posted questions on the forum i always got an answer , and a lot of the times DJ helped answer some for me also.
So please send her all my best wishes from Scotland and i pray for a speedy recovery.
Kindest Regards
Julie xx

Thanks for the update, Lulu.  I've been thinking about DJ a lot, even though I haven't been around the forum that much, either.  I did see the post about how she was doing and how she's like a super kind of cat with more than nine lives.  She is one amazing lady.

I hope the doctors are able to get her pain under control, that the spinal leak heals soon, and any lingering infections are dealt with right away, her lungs clear, and her spirits are kept up.

I also hope her move to PA goes smoothly.

I just spoke with DJ a short bit ago.  They are pretty sure that the fluid she is draining is spinal fluid - the leak would be where they removed the morphine pump line.  The doctor thinks the headaches will subside when the surgical site heals and the fluid leak stops.

She is working on deep breathing to clear the pneumonia.  Right now with her lungs congested she is unable to clear her tracheotomy on her own and they are having to suction it - which she hates!!!

Truthfully she sounded so much better today than I would have guessed.

The flight to PA will be a medical transfer - there is no other way that she could make it across the country.  I told her that you had asked about her and she was tickled to hear that.  She asked how you are doing and I told her you haven't been around much  so  I couldn't give her a full report.

later, L

Thanks, it seems so impossible for her to travel like this...but I can't put anything past her.

Hi Meg,
I just saw your question so here is the update-  (and no, you didn't miss anything - I've been holding off!)

They did surgery on DJ on Monday to remove the morphine pump.
The doctor took multiple samples of all the bodily fluids and they were sent off to be cultured.  He wants to know for sure what type(s) of infections they are still battling.

When I spoke to her yesterday afternoon she was in horrific pain but still her usual non-complaining self.  We had to keep the conversation very brief.  The oral morphine doesn't work like getting it infused directly into her spinal column.  They are searching for a different approach to handle her pain.

The movers are set to go to her place on Monday and get her household things for the move to PA.  The doctors in CA has said she can go probably next week.

I plan on calling her here in a bit so I will give you an update later.

I'll be sure to tell her you asked.
