YUP! I wish I would forget to eat sometimes!! Too tired to fix anything decent, yes. Whatever usually end up cleaning up in phases.
I also have to take notes on phone conversations - so I remember what friends have told me. I get so worried that people will think I don't CARE just because I haven't remember what they have told me. I try hard to concentrate and remember. Just so often it doesn't "take".
Ah yes, something fun!
not dx'ed yet but this is soooo me. dont remember much of anything dealing with my childhood. just little pieces, dont remember culinary school, dont remember much of stuff with my kids esp my oldest who is 15. I remember bit and pieces but not a whole lot. I also live by my phone, if there isnt an alarm going off telling me to make a call or that i have an appt i dont remember to do it. the kids know to give me a paper to sign and make me sign it then or it wont get done. i even forget to eat sometimes until i get so hungry.
Yes, it is MS. Yes, the memory holes from MS are really difficult to deal with. I also sometimes have trouble recognizing objects. Or thinking of words. It's mainly why I don't work any more. I know exactly what you mean. I have to ask my boyfriend if I have seen a movie before. Or a broadway play even - which is a much bigger deal, obviously. I don't remember meals or when I last saw a friend - or if I have paid a bill or not. So I have to pay them as soon as they come in. If I don't they get lost, I forget to pay them..... I don't remember details either.
Yes, I remember going to Paris and a couple things that I saw - but not much! And when the person I went with tells me aboutt stuff I just am blank. Very frustrating. And upsetting.
How sad not to remember your wedding or birth of your child!
Photos help a lot. I know some people who take many photos and journal along with them to keep a running memory of their life - and reviewing it helps jog things alot. Now that is if you are organized and have the energy for that stuff. I'd like to do it. Sound good. Don't.
I hardly read books any more, because by the middle (or less) I will have forgotten the beginning or who the characters are.... BUT when I do read I take notes! And review them before I start reading again. So I know where to look when I need to figure out who a character is.
I leave notes for myself. Put things in front of the door so I'll have to fall over them to get out of the door - and still manage to walk around things and forget them.
You have to work out what works for you - but you can get a cognitive booklet from the MS society free.
Sorry you are dealing with this - over 60% of MS folks have some sort of cognitive issues. Ain't that grand?
I'll add my condolences to sailor song. Hope that didn't cause an exacerbation - STRESS STRESS STRESS. How awful.
Marcia
Thank you for your response. And please accept my condolences.
I have the same problem but to probably a lessor extent. I can remember most of my childhood as if they happened just yesterday, but there are definite gaps at different times.
That said I don't know if it MS related or not as I also have gaps that are definitely related to PTSD, such as the period between the birth of my son and his death 6 weeks later. Who knows if these other gaps are due to them having something in them that would remind me of my son and hence my mind is blanking them out as well?
