Does anyone experience random spots of extreme itchiness?

My right hand is tingly 24/7 from the remenants of my first attack.  The first attack included severe itching in my upper chest that caused me to do a bit of damage to my skin. That all went away after about 6 weeks thank goodness. Three days ago my index finger on my same hand started itching like crazy.  I am afraid I am going to break the skin.  I don't even notice it but my thumb is almost always scratching the itch.

Does anyone have any experience in the department? What do I do to relieve the itch?

Thanks! :)

Oh BTW for those that responed before about my ear...thank you all! I do have allergies that are plugging my canal and all of your suggestions have made some improvement.  Atleast it is not an infection :)

Thanks for the thoughts and ideas.  This time it is just a fingertip.  I am going to keep my  thumb nail short and that should help :-)
I will keep the lidocaine patches in mind though in case my chest flares up again.  Before I was dx'd I was in physical therapy to relieve a "pinched nerve" in my neck (which was causing my entire right arm to be numb and start to atrophy) and I remember my therapist freaking out about the "rash" on my chest.  I just said "NO that is just the damage from me scratching."  She was doubting the pinched nerve at that point.

I do hope those in limboland get answers soon

Yes, I had that worst on my right shin. The skin got red and thick and nearly hairless after months of being scratched.

Skin lotion helped a little bit (mitigating the resulting dryness). I learned to scratch gently using the backs of my fingernails or a loofa sponge. Simply putting pressure on the itchy spot when it starts up, even mild pressure, might help too.

My other itchy spots have not been so severe as to cause skin damage.

Good luck--it's annoying as heck, isn't it!

I'm in limbo, not dx w/ms. I get severe itching on my right side. no mater how much I scratch there's no relief- it hurts and feels good at the same time if that makes any sense. at night, I put socks on my hands so I don't do as much damage to my skin when I have 'itching attacks'. I haven't tried the lidocaine patches.

I've heard lidocaine patches work great.  Never tried it.  People cut up the patches and apply it where needed.
