Abnormal nerve conduction test to add to the other abnormalities.

Hi again,  I have had my last test with this current neurologist today.

Interestingly but not surprisingly, he (because his technician failed to turn up) did a nerve conduction test which was also abnormal.   This abnormal test now sits along with my abnormal MRIs x 2 , EEG, ENG, and neuro-otology.

The only test done which is normal was  my carotid dopplers which I reluctantly agreed to.  I refused to undertake a cardiac CT as I have a cardiologist who looks after me and conducted cardiac testing earlier this year with no abnormalities.

My nocturnal myoclonic jerking which was extremely viloent and disruptive to my sleep has gradually faded away now.  It was present for about 2 1/2 months.   This is the third or fourth time I have experienced this in the last 12 years.   The first time I experienced this was also at the same time that I had experienced the eye problems, although in the left eye that time.

I have no answers from my doctor.......   He initially told me that they had to rule out things like JCD (!!!) and  dementia.  He changed from that to MS, to cardiac, today mentioned carpal tunnel and insulin resistance (my endocrinologist checked me this year).  This neuro is all over the place like a mad woman's breakfast!!!!

He gave me a copy of the letter to my GP and it was interesting to note that he said he hasn't covered the right facial/ear and eye issues, which apart from the myoiclonic jerking, were my main complaints.

Do I sit on all this or follow it up with a different neurologist?    Would be interested in hearing what you all think.

regards   P

you have my sympathy with the mesh thingy.  I am "carrying around" a stent after the lithotrypsy on my kidney stone (know I didn't spell that one right)
is supposed to help but know it is there 24/7 and is painful, worse than any uti have ever had.

but I digress again

latest MS is night spasms and hugs......have forgotten what a normal day could be like!

sending you support prayers

Your Neurologist sounds like an idiot.  Sorry.  I'm glad you're going to raise your concerns with your primary doctor. Perhaps he/she will have suggestions as to where you go from here.

No reason to apologize whatsoever.

Keep on it and don't get too discouraged.

I apologise for failing to comment on your complete message.

If your TEE is  what we call a TOE (transoesophageal echo) then I'm so sorry that you had to undertake that for exclusion of your MS.   Then to top this off with a vaginal meshing as well......all to try and exclude your eventual diagnosis......   I am so sorry that all had to happen.

All the best and thanks for your comment.

Thanks for answering.....  I must say he wasn't too impressed when I told him I wouldn't have the cardiac CT. I have no cardiac history in my family and I had undergone stress testing and cardiac echo just months ago.   Also, something that he fails to consider at all is the radiologists report which says of my MRI (x 2) that    "ALthough not numerous, the distribution and morphology of these white matter hyperintensities is not typical for microvascular ischaemic aetiology".  Ignores it completely!!!!

Anyways, I will see my Gp next week with all these test results and see what she has to say.

Hey there Aussie,

I think you know the answer to the question you asked at the end already.  I understand the apprehension to go through yet another Neurologist and start from the beginning is a bit cumbersome and time consuming, I believe it would be the best choice.

I too had "cardiac" issues according to the Neurologist.  I had to go for a TEE to rule out Patent Foramen Ovale, a congenital disorder which I knew would come back negative.  I had to go through that procedure anyways to prove the suspicion wrong as well as not be sedated as I should be due to low blood pressure 84/58's.

I then had a vaginal mesh done for my incontinence, hesitancy, frequency and retention which post-op day #1, I was having the same symptoms still.  All that for nothing.

I give my kudos to you to have the strength to refuse a test to entertain a man who is all over the place with your diagnosis.

It is time to move on.  This Neurologist is not going to change in his mannerisms, assessments and/or diagnosis other than mention things that are not conducive to what your symptoms are.

Good luck on the search for your new Neurologist.  If you have a  MS Center and good insurance, my suggestion is to go to that particular clinic.  Get everything you need: laboratory and diagnostic tests and MRI CD's of all your brain and spine.
