Not sure what to make of this

In the course of getting my disability forms filled out I had to put a lot of pressure on my Neurologist at the VA through the proper channels.

I just got a letter from the VA about an up coming Appt. It is with a non-VA doctor (Neurologist) right here in my really small town. I have been to probably most of the local Neurologists around my town with VERY UNSATISFACTORY results based on my age and gender).

Anyway I looked this doctor (Dr. K) on the Internet and found the following"

Specialty:

Psychiatry & Neurology
   sub specialty Neurology
Family Medicine
   sub specialty Sports Medicine
No board certification on any of the above.

Affiliated with 2 hospitals (1 4 star rated and other 1 star rated)

Medical school UC Davis
Residency
   Vet Affairs Med Ctr Neurology
University of CA East Bay Program, 1987-1990

Fellowship Neurology completed

I also looked up Dr K in phone book. Not listed under Neurology or Sports Medicine (only general MD listing).

PS the letter is dated the same day my disabilty forms were finally filled out.

Dennis

Late wife was sent to a couple of docs and a clinic by Soc Sec before they approved her.  Shrink was raided several months to a year afterward by Medicaid; never heard if anything resulted.  GP was as old as the two of us combined.  He seemed more intrigued with my hat than with my wife's condition.  I stood next to her, though, when they had her read the eye chart, and I think I turned to look at her in disbelief.  Then she was to go to this clinic for an x-ray.  When she got in the room, they insisted that their orders were to x-ray the better of her knees, when her foot, the other knee, and her hips were giving her trouble at the time.  Next thing we knew, they dropped a bunch of money in our bank account (even though they'd never asked for the account number -- spooky, eh?) to pay her benefits retroactively to the day she'd stopped getting them through her employer.

I work in government.  She worked many years in either health care or in medical insurance claims.  Oh, she did workers' comp claims for a few years, too.  We've seen it all.  Trust me, it makes no sense.

That is what makes this so weird. When I first started going to the VA last summer They had scheduled me a consult with some Neuro (might have been this one but don't remember who it was). Then the shrink at the VA raised a stink and the changed it to a consult at Vandy. After that initial consult at Vandy they then had me see Neuros at the VA (usually these Neuros are Vandy doctor). My last Appt. at the VA was with a Vandy Neuro just about 1 month ago. So why this switch to this Neuro all of a sudden? I think it might be because I raised a stink trying to get my disability form filled out.

Dennis,

since the VA put in the req you can ask the requesting dr on the consult the resoning for this particular doctor. at least narrow some reason(s) down as to why this particular dr was requested.

you think the VA would get you an appt with a civilian neuro at Vandy?

Dennis,

Very interesting research; I never thought to search for that kind of public-record information; just malpractice, that is only public if it was over $100,000.00 fine.

In my journey to Social Security Disability, I was examined by some doctors that I had no idea why they were chosen.  I saw a family medicine doctor about my orthopedic issues, for one example.

Physchiatry and neurology are what my last MS specialist's specialties were listed as, so he may actually have some knowledge in the field.  Maybe he's better at neurology than sports medicine?  We can hope!

I think UC Davis is a good school, as far as I can remember.

I hope it turns out in your favor.

The appt was out of the blue. The disability form that I needed to have filled out was a standard form to say I'm disabled or not, Dx, Sx, and prognosis. It required no special info. It was my VA Neuro that filled out the form for me (along with cardiologist).

Actually the doctor specializes in sports medicine and I have found more info about him on the web. In Feb 2000 he was hired by a hospital in a phyical rehab capacity and was fired in August 2000. He lost his case against the hospital for wrongful termination. Since then it looks like he has set up practice in various locations of TN and then moved on for some unknown reason.

Isn't it nice what you can find out about doctors sometimes on the web?

Hi Dennis,

out of curiosity, did you request to see this type specialty doctor to get statements of disability or did the VA out of the blue set this appt up?

if you need statements of disability could not your VA neuro write statements in your be half?  i've never asked a VA doctor for this so i'm curious.

according to your list he looks like specializes as a shrink
