Ditto to all three comments. Ask doc; that's why they make the big bucks.
I've recently been told I'm low on D, but I think I've reacted to the multivitamins I added, so I am holding off a few more days before I restart the D, just to be sure that's not what gave me the horrible itch.
I am on 2000 units a day. My vitamin D was depleted at one point and they put me on the high dose 50,000 units a week. Dr gave me prescription for them and I was on that for a couple of months, when it was back in normal range she has kepts me on 2000 units daily.
I like to get sun when I can to make natural vitamin D but this time of year, well at least lately, there hasn't been much sun my way.
I would speak with your dr about how much he/she reccomends before you go out and start taking more than you need.
Good luck,
Paula
I'd be checking with my doc before starting anything. he/she needs to be aware of what you are adding suppliment wise.........
High doses of vitamin D can cause of magnesium deficiency as the body uses magnesium to convert vitamin D to active vitamin D. If you are eating a diet high in magnesium you won't have issues. If you aren't...well hello magnesium deficiency symptoms. :) This can be anything from muscle twitches to constipation...the list of magnesium deficiency symptoms is ridiculously long.
