Finally joining the diagnosed!!!

Hi Guys

Details of neuro appt. in my journal - not sure how I feel at the moment. Just exhausted from it all I need a good nights sleep to take it all in now.

By the way, I take everything back I said about Dr N he joins the Hall of Fame.

Man, am I tardy in getting my comments to you!!

So, welcome to the ranks!  I am not going to do the usual thing and say I'm sorry for having MS.  You and I know that now your demon has a name, has validity in the eyes of the world and that fear of the unknown is far worse than a named enemy.

Numb?  Satisfied?  Confused?  Everything but disbelieving.  Your emotions may be a roller coaster up and down, but a wise woman (ess, I think) once said that people handle this like they have handled all previous crises.  In my case I was jubilant at the diagnosis and the validation, but about a month later the dew was off the rose and I was p1ssed!

Portugal - You lucky dog!!  One I've always wanted to tour Spain and Portugal and two, I love hearing Portuguese being spoken! - so melodic and fun.

We need to hear all when you get back, which is when you'll see this.  You are not forgotten!

I just got back from reading your journal and posting, so I won't repeat that here.

I hope you have a wonderful trip to Portugal, that the conference goes smoothly, and that you and your hubby have some time to explore and take some cool pictures to share with us here!

Of course, take the time to relax and be careful in the heat, too.

Hugs,

Kathy

Try and not do too much Pat, you have just had the dx and are now doing this trip, hopefully you will get plenty of time to relax.

I have left a message in your journall.

Enjoy Portugal

Thanks to everyone for their notes, comments and posts I really, really appreciate them and I know that you all know how much it means to have you guys truly understand.

I have had a night to 'sleep' (although I haven't gotten much sleep) on the dx and it still feels unreal even though we anticipated it.  I think it comes from so many years of sx that were dismissed as something else. I still expect the phone to ring and someone to say 'ha ha only kidding!'

I am sure over the next few days the reality will sink in, although I don't have much time to contemplate all this at the moment as I fly to Portugal tomorrow to a conference for work, my hubbie is coming too to help me and as the flights are only once a week to North Portugal and the conference is only for 3 and half days we will get some spare time to look around.

It was organised some 8 months ago and I will be presenting some of my research there. That should be a laugh in the heat there eh? But life has to go on so I have to try this and see how I manage.

I think it will only feel real once I start seeing the MS nurses, etc.

Thanks again guys, I may be absent for a while after today but I will be back, you are stuck with me now!!!

Love to all of you.

Pat

Dozens of us have graduated from limboland while members of the forum, and all of us with a diagnosis know just how you feel. You will work it out little by little, so don't hurry yourself. Heave a huge sigh of relief, and let the emotions come as they will. Ultimately you will be fine.

It's outrageous that the NHS policy prohibits your starting a DMD now. If this is a cost-saving measure, it's doubly outrageous. However, just keep the faith and take advantage of the services they will provide, including help with your employer.

Keep letting us know how you are.

No one wants to be diagnosed with any kind of health problem, and certainly not MS or a chronic health problem - but just knowing what it is and being able to start treatment...I can imagine that you are feeling a sense of relief.

Stay positive!

Chrisy

Thanks guys I would have been lost without you all over these last few months and in spite of this dx my life is richer for knowing you are my cyber family.

Dear Pat,
I posted on your journal as well. Just know that your emotions are normal. Will write more later. My left hand is not cooperating very well at the moment.

Big Hugs,

Dear Pat,
Its been an uphill climb for you but now you are on the other side of this mountain - how's the view from over here?  Pretty intimidating, isn't it?

I'm going to go read your journal now, but I can imagine a lot of what you have to say.  Please be gentle with yourself and let this news sink in a bit at a time.  Just when you think you've thought it all through and ready to move on, be prepared to be whacked up the side of the head again!

Its a mixed blessing - its good to know what is wrong, but having MS stinks.  I'm so sorry you are here with us forever.

Remember we are still here for you.

lots of love and hugs to you,
Laura/Lu

you have some answers.. I can only imagine how you feel and know it would be difficult, I would imagine that you probably are in shock of having a Dx... I wonder what he found with the Neuro exam that would give him that push to change his toon??    Did he say??

I'm not glad you have MS, but happy you have answers to how you have been feeling.

I still do not have a Dx.. and kind of give up on it right now..but I did get some medication that might help some of my symptoms.... hope you do well with Physio...I enjoy going to mine. It helps abit, not that much, but I enjoy pushing myself abit and I can do it there...

take care and we are here for you
