Got my EVP results, finally!!! HELP!

FInally! Six weeks later, I finally have my results! I've been calling every week, only to be told they weren't done. Someone wasn't really checking any further than "looking" at the computer to see if results were there! I finally found someone who cared enough to find out why they were done and discovered they had been "overlooked" and never got done.  So, I finally got them faxed to me this morning!

Here they are:
Good news is my eyes and ears are normal, which I wasn't expecting anything to be wrong there.

The upper limbs says:
With stimulation of the left median nerve, the response over the cervical spine was not well formed, but an N20 potential was present over the scalp which had a normal latency of 19 ms. (WHAT DOES THIS MEAN)
With stimulation of the right median nerve, an N20 response could not be clearly identified over the scalp.
IMPRESSION: abnormal findings bilaterally.

The Lower limbs says:
With stimulation of either nerve (both sides), a popliteal fossa potential was present (HUH?), but the subsequent potentials were poorly formed and could not be identified with confidence.

This is because the lower limb test was extremely painful for me and I was in tears! I tried to do what I could to relax...deep breathing, whatever, but it apparently didn't work!

So, I have at least an abnormal finding in my upper limbs. So this means I am NOT crazy. This on and off tingling I've been feeling in my hands (and feet) IS real and not in my head.   Is this helping to put me closer to some kind of a diagnosis?  Is it likely he will want a spine MRI now? I did have a cervical MRI done in March of 07, which was negative.  It seems my one larger lesion has 'healed' and the now I only have some  tiny non specific ones in the frontal lobe, I think that's where they are?

Help anyone?
Thanks guys! Love it here!

Interpreting EP results is not something I do often.  But I'll make a stab.  For an EP to show evidence of a demyelinating lesion it must show two things.

1) The signal must be delayed (by at least a certain amount)

2) The "wave form" must arrive preserved and with a good shape.

Upper limbs:

Left - medial nerve - poorly preserved wave form.  (I'm not sure this is indicative of a process like MS)

Right - No response identified.  ??

Lower limbs - the signal was only detectable at the popliteal fossa (the hollow behind the knee. (This may have been due to problems with the testing, I don't know)

So, I can't pass much opinion on this test.  Sorry.  I really don't know everything.  :((

Hi!

It feels good to have some validation, doesn't it, even though it means something is not working properly?  I'm glad you pressed and got some results about.... your results!

I wish I knew how to explain what the results mean for you.  This is going to have to be another question for Doc Quix, I'm afraid.  Hopefully someone else will know a bit about it.

Good luck, and feel well,

Zilla*  (We're glad you're here!)
