Hello everyone ! muscle biopsy and nerve biopsy

I have a question and can't find the answer to this.  The doctor is setting up a muscle and nerve biopsy.  My question is do u have to stay in the hospital for this?

And do they give u a local or general?  I have a lot going on sorry I haven't been on in a awhile.

The pain center is finally helping me with my sever pain.  I started taking oral morphine to get ready for the pain pump.   I'm so thankful that I'm finally able to get my pain under control.  After trying everything under the sun.

I hope everybody is doing well. I think about u guys everyday.  I'm very worried about these biopsies. The surgeons are suppose to call me in a couple of days to go over details but, in the meantime I'm hoping that someone can answer these questions so that I can have peace of mind about this.

Thanks so much for replying to my post in advance. I miss u guys. I will keep everyone updated.  I feel I'm getting closer everyday in finding out what's wrong.

Take care.........  Hugs.....
Misty.       I hope this makes sense feeling really loopy but, its been on my mind and I've been searching for answers with no luck.

Misty,

I have no experience with these but I am saying prayers. I truly hope they figure this out soon for you.

Hugs,

Misty, even with general anesthesia they often do same day surgery and send you home to recuperate.  Good luck with this, L

Misty, I think you should do it anyway, you have to find out what this is. You could try to ask if you can go home the same day, or if there is another way, but you must do all the research that is neccesery for diagnoses. But I sure hope you get this your way.

My best,
Dagun

Thanks for all of your replies.  The doctor said because the Emgs came out abnormal.  That they need to do this.  I'm not sure why but, she said they want to try and prevent my left side from getting like my right side.  They noticed from the Emg that there is weakness already starting on my left side...

I was wondering because she said they surgeon would be calling and it would have to be a general and if that's true I'm not doing it...  I don't want to stay in the hospital over night.

Thanks again guys.  I should hear something this week.

Take care
  Misty

Hi Misty,

I'm glad the others here had some experiences to share. I wish you well with your biopsies, and know you are not alone :) Hang in there.

hi Misty I had a muscle biopsy a few years ago and I asked to be put under usuallu its done like Dennis said under local but I was too nervous so asked for general thinking back I probably should have just done local I was home within 2 hours of the procedure had it done on a friday back to work on monday not alot of pain felt like you pulled a muscle. What are the doctors looking for? I didnt have the nerve one done because they did a skin biopsy instead and I have small fiber neuropathy. I would ask if a nerve biopsy is necessary I have heard that people have problems afterwards if they take the surrel nerve one in the ankle . best of luck any questions just ask

After a quick search it looks like it is done as a out patient basis and you go home after the procedure is completed. A local anesthetic is injected into the area from which the biopsy sample will be removed. General anesthesia may be used in children.
