Hi, I am not really much of an expert on the fine points of combining the different treatment modalities as MS worsens. I do know that I respected my former MS neuro immensely. When it looked like I was having more symptoms than he liked, he chose to put me on a 1 day Solumedrol infusion monthly. I did that for a while and things seemed to quiet down.
This is an accepted therapy. It has been studied for it's possible effect of contributing to osteoporosis and the data (still unpublished, but done here at OHSU) was favorable. There would be some possiblitity of being steroid-dependent since it takes close to 15 days to completely clear a 1 gram dose from the system (wide variation among people here). Steroid dependent means that you should wear a Medic Alert tag stating this so that you could get additional steroids in time of physical stress (like injury or severe illness. The Health Page "Steroids - Friend and Foe describes steroid dependence.
I recently read all about Myophenolate - and can't remember any of what I read. Ooops.
Hope this helps.
And thanks all for the Birthday wishes. My family is greatly into increasing the duration of celebrations by observing them belatedly, so keep em coming!

Hi Quix... Happy Belated b-day. I haven't been on line for a few days. Hope you had a great day.
I have a question for you, since you are so knowledgeable. I had a replase in October. It was a new lesion on my spinal cord. Luckily it was on the sensory side of my spine not the mobility side. I am still recovering, numbness etc. in the leg and foot. I saw my neurologist yesterday. I am taking Avonex. He said he wasn't comfortable just having me on Avonex since I had this remission. He said he would like to either have me do a monthly steroid infusion or go on Myophenolate Mofetil. I have been reading about Myophenolate and am not thrilled with the possible side effects. Do you have any thoughts on this medication? Has anyone else been on it. Is anyone on Tysbari? He was hesitant to put me on Tysbari becasue of the side effects of that. Love some of your thoughts.
Happy Birthday, Quix.
I hope your special day was filled with fun and frolic!
Best wishes.
