Just an update...

Well I saw the gp that is covering for my lying gp today and I took along all the data from the Glucose Meter and what I have been eating and Quix was right...I do have Hypoglycemia...my blood glucose went as low as 3.3 when I was feeling crappy so I guess that's it.  Just what I need I figure, another ailment to make life more complicated!  This dr. is sending me for CBCD, Ferritin, B12, Urinalysis, sodium, potassium, alk. phos., ALT, SPE, Mononeucleosis, EBM, E2, FSH and TSH.  She figures that is won't hurt to test for Mono after explaining my fatigue...she just wants to cover the bases but figures its from the hypoglycemia.  I am not sure about the rest but I do know she is testing my hormone levels again because as she said, "they can change from the last test" and it would be good to know if I am starting menopause (which I personally doubt).  She increased my anti-depressants simply because I feel like I need it.  I have been slowly going back down the depression tubes since I started to get sick again so better to fight it now before it gets worse!

I also apparently tore a tendon in my knee and it is killing me!  I was walking through fresh snow on Saturday and couldn't tell where the holes were and stepped in one and it has been getting worse every day.  Glad I had the appointment today and she gave me some gel with a pain killer and anti-inflammatory in it and it feels like it is already working.

So, I will get together with this doctor again once the blood and urine tests come back and she will look into getting me together with a dietician to help me figure all this out.  I think the toughest part about changing my diet will be how to still cook for hubby so he will be happy and I will be healthy...could be interesting.

Another reason why the depression is coming back to see me is that it seems that the steroids didn't work for the pain in my temple and the ice pick has been attacking with a vengeance.  I have increased my Tegretol by 200mg/daily and had to resort to the Oxycontin last night...it sure didn't help with the knee pain and only minimally with the head pain...funny how I feel like I am going to be stuck with this with no answers for the rest of my life.  The neuro said the last time I saw him that Tegretol is the best for this type of pain and if it isn't going to work and Oxycontin isn't going to work...what else is there I wonder.  Hmmm...no wonder I am feeling a little down...the thought of having someone stab me in the temple with an ice pick for the rest of my life just isn't too appealing.

Anyway, gonna go put my leg up and rest this knee...my head isn't bad right now but it is lurking in the background and I will probably have to take an oxy again tonight.  I am thinking of trying to smoke some MJ a friend has and see if it works and if it does I will go to the dr. to see if I can get any medicinal stuff...might be worth a try and if I do I will let you know.

Lots of Hugs,
Rena
p.s.  Thanks again Quix for all your help with the hypoglycemia and I will let you know how things are going!

Hi Sweety,

Just trying to catch up here - and I was glad to see you found this out - OMG! I have read myself in the past all of the problems assoc. w/hypoglycemia.  It's one of the things I tried to get the Dr. to look at when they kept saying MS!  And, you've got both! Durn girl, and now a torn tendon! You been exercising too much or what? Chasing after the dog?

You do what you gotta do, be careful though, Miss you,
Shell

Thank you for responding to my update ladies...it is much appreciated!  Well the gel the dr. gave me for my knee sure helped with the pain...I slept through the night without the pain waking me up which is a bonus.  However, I did wake again this a.m. feeling so bloody sleepy...it is soooo frustrating!  I can't keep my eyes open and just want to go back to sleep!  I don't say that if I had a job to go to every morning that I would have it for very long!  hehe  I would be asleep at my desk before the day started! hehe  This is after I have had a good breakfast and taken my blood sugar which is around 4.6 every morning.  I did keep track of what I was eating every day on a chart and what my blood sugars were and gave it to the dr. to leave in my chart.  She was quite impressed with what I had done and said she wished more patient's would do it. :)

So, I looked up Mono cause she is going to test me for it and I didn't realize that a person can have it without knowing it for a long time.  At least if I have it I will know where this fatigue is coming from.  This is so bloody frustrating...I want to spend time training the dogs and I just haven't got it in me so they will have to wait a while...they say apparently that you CAN teach and old dog new tricks...let's hope so! hehe

Well it was -47 with the wind chill here this a.m. but they say it's supposed to go up to zero by Friday so here's hoping that spring really is on the way.  The farmer's almanac says we are going to have a cold spring but I don't know what meterological school any farmer went to so I am going to just hope for the best!

Lots of Hugs,
Rena

So glad that you have one problem diagnosed.  At least they can treat that easily with proper diet.  Remember to eat alot of small meals throughout the day, never going more than 4 hours without eating a little something.  When you get up in the morning, make sure you take a bite of something to get your glucose up, before you take off somewhere.

Alot of people forgo breakfast, when I feel that is the most important meal of the day.  Youf body needs fuel to keep those levels in the normal range.

All in all, I really think you have a handle on what is going on with YOUR body.  That's a good thing to talk to your doctor about your deeper depression.  Some people need to take two different kinds of antidepressants to start feeling better.

Rest up that knee and try to take care of yourself, Rena girl.  Spring is on the way, girlfriend.

Big Huggie Wuggies,
Heather

Hi there,

Thanks for the update.  I've been thinking about you, even if I haven't been on the forum much.

I'm glad that your lying gp's substitute has the smarts figure out the hypoglycemia, order all the bloodwork, and trusted you to know that you probably need a boost of antidepressants.

I find pain exhausting and depressing; especially with few or conflicting answers and very little relief.  I'm going to discuss my depression with my GP today.

I hope you get a good dietician that can not only help you understand how you need to be eating, but that can help you figure out how to coordinate preparing your meals and your hubby's.

Darn, time to get ready to go to the doctor.  See you later.

Bunches of Hugs,

Kathy

Good to see you.  I've missed you here recently.  You have a lot on your plate.  I'm glad that I could help with the nasty episodes you were having, but the continuous pain must be awful.  Yes, the ongoing pain could drain you of energy and increase your depression, so watch that carefully.

I began showing signs of pre-menopause by age 42.  It often shows up as an imbalance in the hormones with an estrogen excess.  In my case I had bigger and very tender boobies, emotional lability (with more depression) and weight gain.

All in favor here of trying the MJ.  Good luck and DO keep us posted.

Take care,

Be weller

Quix

HiRena,
At least you have that one on the table and can be treated for the hypoglycemia.   You just have to pick off these illnesses one at a time.

I am so proud of you to head off the depression early by being proactive with the drugs and not waiting until you're in a deep dark place.  Good job!

keep off your feet for a day or two and heal!
