Are you on Copaxone by any chance? It is the injection most commonly associated with welts, site reactions, lipoatrophy, etc. I would ring the patients assistance number for whatever medication you're on (or your MS nurse) and get some specific feedback on if this is likely directly related to your medication and the best way to go about avoiding these lumps.
Thanks for your response. I am taking Aubagio (one pill a day). I am not particularly impressed with my Neurologist's knowledge of this med so I thought I would reach out to this community. I will also contact my One2One MS nurse.
You did not say how big these lumps are, but I might call Aubagio and ask them. Do they have a 800 line like Biogen does?
I have been on Tysabri for 3 years, and have found that since going on it, I have had a tremendous increase in moles, 4 of which my dermatologist felt needing removing but came back as benign. The reason I mention it, is because they act the same as you describe.
First they are colorless and itch like crazy for a couple days, and then pop up with color and the itching fades away in a couple days.
Hope this helps as something to consider
Could they be hives which are caused by an allergic reaction?
Alex
My Neurologist is going to contact Aubagio. In the meantime she has told ne to stop taking it. The lumps are the size of a pea up to the size of a quarter. They are extremely painful if touched and aren't itchy. It was suggested that it might be another auto-immune condition that presents like this. GREAT....just what I need, something else to be wrong. I can handle pain and discomfort as long as I know what it is. It's the unknown that drives me crazy.
I understand about the unknown. Aubagio is a newer drug. Hopefully it is a side effect and not another condition. I had itchy lumps 8 days after I started Copaxone. It took Benadryl and it went away when my body got used to the drug.

I have to wait two weeks after taking my last Aubagio pill to see if that is the cause of the "lumps". I also have a very swollen right ankle. My Neuro and primary care originally thought they were not related but after an ultrasound, bloodwork and pelvic MRI, they think both may be caused by the med. I don't want shots, so I hope if this med is a problem I can find another pill that will be OK
So diagnosis is in... Erythema Nodosum
That is what the lumps are. Drs are not convinced that Aubagio caused it but since it was the only thing new at the time, I have stopped taking it. Now on to Copaxone after I get the Augabio out if my system. That is going to take another month with the help of a different med. Not looking forward to injectios at all.
