MS Meds

After being on Avonex for 1 1/2 years I have developed new side effects??  Red eyes with severe pain (in my eyes & behind my eyes)  It started several months ago and now happens with each weekly injection.  Has anyone here had to discontinue Avonex due to side effects?

Hi there,

Adding on a belated welcome! I sure hope you find out what is going on w/this new problem.  I hope it's not the Avonex. Let us know too how it goes w/reaching out to the company ref. this problem.  I did not get much help from the manuf. of Rebif where my allergic reaction was concerned. They are helpful in other ways, just not regarding the not so common late affects.

Other than this, how are you doing w/your MS? Hope to see you around.

Hi and welcome.

Yes, I think you really need to report this to your neuro. Are you being monitored for liver problems since starting Avonex? That's always a good idea with this med, since the enzyme levels can get fouled up.

I also get just the usual effects from Avonex (on it 4 months), but I've learned how to minimize them and so am doing very well thus far.

Please talk to your doctor and let us know what you find out.

Hi fellow Washingtonian! I've been on Avonex for over 5 years and have never had a reaction like that! I mostly just have a headache or a little achey and that is only once in awhile. I would call my neuro pronto and/or biogen/idec, the makers of Avonex. I think they have someone on call to answer questions. Even the place where you get your Rx should have someone who can answer your question. Best wishes! I sure hope it clears up soon! That must be miserable! Granny Jo
