Hello all!
Quick background info: Dx RRMS 4/02. Brain, Cervical and Thoracic lesions. My spinal MS is and always has been more active. I have a dozen or more lesions in C&T spine.
The last neuro I saw indicated that I have left side hemiparesis. He ranked me as a 3 on the FSS for pyramidal function.
My issue:
My issue is "getting started" walking especially after standing from a seated position. For the most part, I can walk fine...when I can get started walking. However, when I first stand up - my left leg almost buckles on me. My left leg feels like a noodle. I stager and limp for the first few steps until my leg gets going.
WHY is that???
Once I "get going" - If I keep going... I can walk. If I have to stop and start again? I might stumble a little bit. It's almost like I have to get my balance again. I'll limp for a few steps and then I'll be able to walk without stumbling.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?
This has been gradually getting worse. Last week, I got out of my car, circled my car to go up the stairs into the house and almost fell when I stepped on the first step with my left leg. It was almost too weak to go up the stairs.
I'm baffled by this because it seems to "work" sometimes and doesn't seem to work other times. I can't put my finger on it. :-/
They finally have a new MS neuro coming to Cincinnati that should be starting next month and I'm going to bring this up but I'm not sure I know the right words/way to describe it. Does that make sense?
I do notice recently that when I am walking that when I start, stop, or even turn that I am losing my balance. This is probably because I am using visual clues to maintain my balance and any change to the visual information coming in has to have time to adjust my balance information in my brain. I'll also lose my balance when I turn off the light in my bedroom at night, no visual information.
