Hey, steroids and Rebif don't do the same thing. Steroids will help you feel better during a flare, but they don't stop or reduce the degenerative process. Rebif is there to slow things down so that you'll have less flares overall. However, it doesn't guarantee that you won't have a flare, and it won't make you feel 'better.'
LO freakin L!!!!!!!! Dang I am so glad to have this support and be laughing right now!!!!!
Love u guys!!!

Today I tried to change the channel with my Blackberry. And it wasn't the first time.
Kel- Two days ago I couldn't do a function on a computer program I use every day. I just sat there an stared at the keyboard. Finally I asked my husband and then it came back to me. I know others here have had similar issues...you are not alone sister!
I meant to finish that last part then forgot.,
I forgot how to make a grillcheese for my 3yr old and my 5 yr old tonight for dinner. LOL!!!! I can't stop laughing about it. And a couple of days ago before I found U guys, I would b cying!!!!! Love u guys!!!!
Yes I did the solumedrol type. My medicaid wouldn't cover the IV thing so I drank it in a shave for 4 days, then took about 10 pills for a couple days then down to just 3 pills w/i the week. I'm scared that if I don't hurry and start the Rebif , the symptoms will get really bad again. The pred. totally cleared my vision, Leg not goin out on me anymore, The only thing that is the same is my cognitive

Just to clarify, were you prescribed oral prednisone? I ask becauswe normally MS flares are treated with IV Solu-medrol. Oral prednisone helps too, but because a high dose is needed, normally it is a LOT of pills to have to take at once, something like 25 pills a day for 3 - 5 days.
Steroids reduce inflammation, which cause the 'flare' situation. The brain swells, and causes a lot of problems.
However, if you're progressing to the point where you're in secondary progressive, steroids don't really do any good.
Yes, I really hope things get better for you. And they will. Sorry your going through all this continual annoyance.

I think that it depends on the severity of the flare and how you feel about steroids. :) They don't heal, they just lessen the severity of your current symptoms.
I have never taken steroids. I am not dx'd either but I can tell you had they offered them to me when I was sickest I would have taken them then... The recent symptoms I have had in the last 5 months I wouldn't have taken any. My last two flares have been mild in comparison to how I felt last fall.
I will say, that if the doctor opted to try steroids for my current vision issues I'd jump at the chance. This is not fun.
My understanding is that it is less about brain swelling and more about the inflammation of the endothelium of the blood vessels (the Blood Brain Barrier) in the brain. The idea is to restore the BBB.
The bigger part of the equation seems to be that steroids stop the action of B and T lymphocytes and natural killer cells (NKC). Stopping the leaking across the BBB (anti-inflammatory action) is great, but stopping the assault of lymphocytes and natural killer cells on the myelin is also a primary goal.
