More TN complaints

I was a little concerned and surprised when I read other peoples comments about still having TN pain while taking Gabapentin.

I was pleased that my TN was mostly gone (except after the first week on Gaba)

It's back. Yesterday - top left mollar pain for a few minutes and miner discomfort off and on for the rest of the day.

Today- bottom left mollar extreme pain for about 5 minutes, slowly fadded to discomfort, where it is now.

I also have a left earache. I do seem to get ear infections easily, so this is probably not related to the TN, i'm using left over ear drops from last time.

I'm taking 900mg Gaba daily. I thought I'd stay at that level, but now that the TN has reared its ugly painfull head, I'm gonna increase to the 1200 mg max I'm prescribed.

Ok good! So, you called and she made notes in chart..that's a GOOD thing   :)
Also, I kinda figured that is what they would suggest...To increase the Gabapentin
as needed then drop back down.....Same thing here!

So, do you think you are a bit better today because you increased the Gaba??
then I start to think to myself..."Oh it must be going away" then I drop down the Gaba........Then Holy Cow!!! ...NOPE! not gone......Hurry take another dose of Gaba......Ahhhh now it is a bit more do - able.   Yes, I am talking to myself   Lol

I also have a pain med rx'ed to me. (I hate taking pain meds).....but this time w/ the TN.....it was a done deal..either that or cut the head off.....That would be a bit messy!

Anyhow, I am glad you called doc, got this chareted, upped Gaba, feeling a bit better  ;)   This is good news.....we are learning together......I still wonder though ....is it the same TN pain that has been around for a week or two......then when it comes back, Is that a NEW ONE (episode)???

Hope your evening is going good!

i don't think so, not from my perspective and experience in this realm ....

i have similar pains you are describing. now, VA eye doctor hints at ON. neuro never seemed to care about it.  i don't know about TN.

i did go and have a tooth removed due to no one at the VA was listening and i was tired of the pain in that region -- tooth gone but pain still there. LOL

i have gabapentin, heck i'll up the dose, what the heck, worth a try. for my pain issues, pain meds only help a few hours anyway.

i'll practice my anger management lessons and not harp too much.

keep posting it always helps at least 1 or more.

Thanks Wobbly, the pain is gone today, other than a minor bit of discomfort. I don't remember what TMJ is, I know I read about it, but.........        ?

Tonya, I just heard back from the MS relapse nurse. She said I should increase my Gabapentin for a few day when this pain kicks in, then go back to my normal dose when the pain stops.

She also said she would make note of it on my chart, because she gave me advice, it has to be charted.

I'll always make sure to get some advice when I phone in, that way I know it'll get charted.

I'm very pleased I took your advice, thanks. Note to self - always listen to Tonya.

I had a bad time with face pain about a month ago and went the the MS clinic in Burnaby and saw my Neuro..she asked me where the pain was and said she didn't think it was TN but wasn't sure..she asked if I get TMJ.. I said I don't think so..the dentist said it didn't sound like TMJ..

so, it ended up that both the neuro and dentist say Atypical facial pain.. which could be TN or TMJ... it's a difficult dx they say..

hope you get answers and the pain settles.. I know I was in tears when the pain would flare up..

take care

I phoned the relapse nurse at the MS clinic (which is where my neuro works) and left a voice mail regarding my tooth/face pain.

I told her I've had it twice before, the last time was more than a month ago, and I was unsure if this is something I should be reporting to her.

I asked her to call me back. Hopefully she'll check her voice mail today and get back to me, but it's 3:00 pm here now, so I'm not holding my breath.

Just wanted you to know I took your advice and reported it.

I'll post her reply when I get it.

you know....I am still learning more and more about TN everyday.
And I too, have the same questions that you do.....Is it the same bout or is it a different one or do they even go by that???  I have NO idea how that works either.  Sorry!

I guess we will learn togather.  AND as far as one feeling more or less pain than another...I don't agree. Mike I am sure that my pain is no less or more than yours but rather maybe the specific nerve it is hitting at the time may make a difference.  Just guessing though!  :)

Didi you call your Doc today? At least it's good to call in and have them to chart it for you....Then it's on record.

Take Care,
~Tonya

I know you can feal my pain. I actually think you get it worse than me, by the sound of some of your precious posts.

I really have no idea if this is considered another bout or an extension from a previous round.

The last time was well over a month ago, but it's in the exact same spot this time, and acting the same way (switching back and forth from top to bottom and on the left side) Would you consider this a new bout?

Thanks for the reply. It's getting better now, hopefully it'll go away completely soon.

TN is like a curse from Hades!   I hope that increasing your meds that you will find some relief. If not there are a couple of other meds that your doctor could RX to you.
By the way, have you let your Neuro know you are having another bout or is this just another extension from the first round??
