Ms symptoms worse with periods??

I was dx in 2009 and am recently noticing that when it is my time of the month that I am in a lot of pain and that my right side (which I have always had trouble with) is very painful and sensitive. This month I have to say is the worst yet so I thought I would start finding out if this is a common thing or if this is yet another 2% thing LOL.

My symptoms also increased with my monthly cycles.  I'm going through Menopause, now, and I've had two periods in the last two years - ahhh, so much better.  The hot flashes, though...not fun!

I very often have a flair up of symptoms before, during and for quite a while after my periods. I posted a question about this some time ago to see if anyone else had a flair up at this time. I have always suffered with terrible period pains, some months are worse than others.

Before I began this ms journey I used to just get the pains, but since my neuro symptoms began these seem to be more pronounced around the time of my periods. This seems to be a trigger for me at the moment. Not every month but most.

I am up to date with smear tests etc so I know I am ok in that department.

I'm with you on this issue! I notice a dramatic difference in the days leading up to my period. Here in the UK we are assigned an MS nurse specialist after diagnosis and I asked mine about this problem. She has recommended that I try taking something like paracetamol on those days to reduce my temperature as she says pre-menstrual women's temp goes up...only ever so slightly but enough to cause symptoms to pop up! I'm gonna try it next month. I think hormones probably play a part too though!

MS can make periods worse but you also need to remember all things are not MS. I had trouble with periods and thought it was MS and it was really Ovarian Cancer. You probably do not have ovarian cancer but you may have some other ovarian issue, It is important to get it checked out. My Doctors were thinking everything that went wrong with me was MS and they are shooting themselves now.

You're not alone!  I always have an increase in symptoms right before my time of the month.  I hear that you can supplement with Aleve and get some relief.
