Ms???

Hi I am hoping someone can help me! For the last ten years I have been suffering with pain all over my body which at first the doctor diagnosed fibromyalgia however in the last two years I have had the following symptoms.. My body jerks whilst sleeping to the point it wakes me up and can be painful, my muscles spasm throughout the day and I lose balance very quickly, I had constant pins and needles in my hands and feet and have now lost the feeling in my left foot where it just feels heavy now, my left leg goes numb where I feel I am dragging my leg when walking up stairs, my skin is over sensitive where I feel like I have bruises covering all my skin and can be very painful to touch, I have weakness in my arms and legs for example when trying to put my hair up it feels like all the blood is rushing out of my arms and I have to take a brake for 5 minutes, I feel constantly exhausted, my speech is sometimes slurred I know what I want to say but the wrong word will come out, I also get up a number of times during the night to go to the toilet and at times can have varied mood swings. I have been to my doctor constantly about this over the last few years and he has now advised that the fibromyalgia diagnosis may have been incorrect and the symptoms sound more like MS which is what they first thought 10 years ago but never tested me for then diagnosed fibromyalgia! He has now referred me to the neurologist for tests but this is going to take 12weeks for an appointment! I'm just looking to see if anyone with MS have these symptoms and if there is any advice on how to relieve them. Thanks xx

It could be as simple as an electrolyte imbalance. Or an iron or vitamin deficiency. I am with Ess get a PCP to do some tests.

Well, nothing 'all over' is MS. This is because each symptom or problem is caused by a specific lesion somewhere in the central nervous system. No one has lesions evenly distributed and causing the same symptom, or even a couple of symptoms, all over the body. Just not possible. Also, bruising is not a part of MS.

That said, it's clear that something is very wrong, even if it's not MS. Your doctor doesn't sound very proactive, to say the least. While waiting the long time to see a neurologist, you could keep trying to see someone else sooner; you could ask your doctor to test you himself for vitamin deficiencies, particularly B12 and D, also all minerals; to thoroughly evaluate your thyroid function; to make sure you don't have Lyme disease (a tricky diagnosis)--in other words, he could be doing lots of rule-out/rule-in work involving possible causes for your symptoms. He could also, on his own, do a basic physical test of neurological function, rather than just listen to your list of symptoms, and he could order at least a brain MRI using the MS protocol. All this is win/win, because these are tests specialists including neurologists would do, and you will already have the results to present to the ones you see.

So I think you need to either light a fire under your present primary doctor or find a new one, as you wait to see one or more specialists. Good luck to you.
