Need help with persistent electric shock sensations in head

I have been experiencing electric type shocks in my head for about two years now. To be more descriptive, it feels like there is vibration and shocking taking place inside my brain, alternating between different areas. Sometimes it feels like my head is filled with cotton or dirty electricity. I havent been taking very seriously by doctors. The only documentation i have is bloodwork that indicates that i am positive for anti bodies, which suggests autoimmune but the doctor  claims the number isnt high enough to diagnose anything. So I am suffering a great deal with this ongoing persistent ailment every day and i have been taking amphetamines(adderall) to curb the sensations and have taken pain killers in the past. Both have worked, but once a tolerance is built up, I am left with these excrusiatingly agitating syptoms. I Need ANSWERS. Has anyone experienced this..and if so what meds have helped or what kind of doctor have you seen?

Hi and welcome to the MS Forum,

I can relate to electrical shock sensations in your head, it is horrible and I know what you mean because I experience this very same sensation.

I would recommend you seeing a neurologist, as your symptoms do sound neurological.  Some types of migraines can present like this, not much fun, but could even be a migraine, do you get any other symptoms with this electrical charge, mine feel like bolts of lighting shooting through my head, they are painful like touching an electric fence, I take both migraine meds and another drug called Gabapentin which is an anticonvulsant that is used to treat epilepsy, but they have found this medicine to be helpful for people with MS that are experiencing neuropathic pain.

In fact I was just complaining about this type of pain to the MS Nurse this morning to decide if it was better to up my migraine meds or my gabapentin, my neurologist has just upped my dose of gabapentin, as this type of pain is horrible.

Good luck with it all,
Cheers,
Udkas.

Hi and welcome.  That sounds horrible to experience.  Too many people here will understand your difficulty with getting the doctors to take you seriously - it can be a common problem.
You don't say what type of doctor you have been treated by - is this a neurologist?

Welcome again to the MS forum - we'll be happy to answer questions.

be well, Lulu
