Thanks Quix for the explanation...so many tests..

Wobbly and SamandSprout are correct. The EMG is useful for determining if a nerve problem is from damage to the Peripheral Nervous System - thus NOT from MS. It tests whether the nerve signal is intact our in the body. And the Evoked Potentials - all of them, the VEP, BAER, and the SSEP - are used to see if the nerve signal is damaged at a location within the central nervous system and, thus, would likely be from something like MS.

Hi tarter,
So nice to meet you and thank you for the input. I will have to ask him when I see him. I am not dx. (with anything) yet. Please let me know how you make out. The whole test was a surprise to me. my limbs were flying around which I did not realize would happen..I felt a little stupid...I was not warned what it would feel like or how my body would react..overall though pretty painless just freaky...
I will let you know what my neuro says..I tried to google EMG results of hummmm and huhhhh but didn't get anything..funny..(just kidding) I did not realize they could interpert the results immediately.
Be Well

Hi Jibjen, I had an EMG by a doctor two yrs ago she told me then while doing the tedt I did have some abnormality in the heat and cold sensors and in one foot there was a slower signal. I would have thought the Neuro could have told you then if the test showd up anything. I myself am having a second Neuro because my doc is concerned that I have got worst with the flares. I too next week will have another EMG I will le you know the outcome. You have to push I find for the answers but good luck and nice speaking with you.

Hello,
Just a quick question. I had an EMG done recently..My neurologist completed it. Is this something he could have given me the results right them and their or do the results need to be generated and then reveiwed? He did not say much...just a lot of huhhhhs and hmmmms..Then he said he would like to get an MRI of spine but sent me to Physical Therapist for leg parethesia. I have a follow up at end of month but was not sure if anyone knows.

Thanks everyone for all your comments its great having feedback.
Cheers tarter
I will also have a nerve conduction study in January to rule out my sensory symptoms being a peripheral nerve problem, as opposed to a central nervous system problem.
So, it's not a test for MS, but can help determine if there is a problem with peripheral nerves, which could suggest something other than MS as the root of one's symptoms.
I think the opposite is the SSEP, which tests whether there is a problem with signals getting through the central nervous system. While a negative SSEP wouldn't rule out MS, a positive SSEP can help determine that there is a problem in the central nervous system.
I have one scheduled for Nov 30th. I have found some sites that list it as a test for MS, but mostly for other things, like carpel tunnel.
from what I know about EMGs I think that what they are called.. it's too rule out mimics or look for other possible reasons for your symptoms...not MS.
now, I could be wrong and hope other jump in with this
