Hi there.. I'm not yet Dx... I do have pains on and off... burning sensation patches on different part of the body and electric shock feeling...down my legs.. tingling and numbness. My left side of my body is weaker then right side.
I'm not sure about stopping Gabapentin before the test.. I would think it doesn't matter. Call a Dr to ask.. I had a Nerve Con study a few years ago... but I wasn't on Gabapentin then..only Tyl 3...
the test is on your muscles I think and I don't think it would hurt to take your meds... but call and find out...do you have a Nurses line there to call for info?
take care

Hi,
I will ring them closer to the test or if my Dr rings with the rest of my results (which hopefully he will do) I will ask him.
It sounds like you might be very close to a diagnosis. I wish you luck with that, I guess you will have mixed emotions if you do get it, but at least you will have an answer for your problems. It must be confusing for you to receive so many conflicting answers about your MRI.
Where do you live? Could you see Dr Kantor? I would travel kms and Kms to see a good Dr. I went to the states a few years back and drove from Nashville to Jacksonville, the worst thing was pulling out of streets, it was hard getting my head around driving and sitting on the otherside of the car.. when I went around corners I would go to indicate and my wipers would come on....lol
I wish you all the best, thanks for answering or trying to answer my question.
Cheers,
Udkas.
I have these same symptoms...electric-like shocks that run down the legs/arms...takes your breath away!!! I also have the numbness with tingling and sometimes I have pins-&-needles...and this isn't even a fraction of all my symptoms. I'm still undiagnosed. I had the EMG test done 2 years ago, and they were normal. I've heard many say that it was a breeze, but it was extremely painful for me....not trying to scare you though. I think you should have them to see if you have nerve damage. I was taking Flexeril (muscle relaxer) at the time...as I was in such a flare. So, I would also like to know if it makes a difference...as I have bad spasticity.
I have a nerve conduction test coming up and am looking forward to see some of the responses to this post.
As far as I know Gabapentin and other anti-seizure medications don't have any effect on the functioning of the peripheral nerves. They sort of calm down the brain's response to input like the misfiring of nerves so all they really do is reduce your perception of the pain in the brain. So logically, I don't see how taking Gabapentin would have any effect on the results of this test, but like Wobbly said it's probably a good idea to ask your doctor or nurse.
I don't know about the symptoms question. That's a good question for your doctor.
FWIW, I don't get the pattern of nerve pain that you describe.
Good luck with the test.

Hi Sho,
I will ask my Dr tomorrow as I will be getting the last of my test results and I need to talk to him about taking a higher dose of Gabapentin.
I don't think he is expecting anything to show on this test, he is still with the theory of Transverse Myelitis and from my reading radicular pain is a feature of this.
The pain has been terrible lately, ever since he did the LP. Might be just co-incidence but it has never been this bad, almost on some days debilitating in itself.
I also keep getting this sensation like there is water running down my leg. The pain seems to bolt into my feet and run down a set nerve but it also goes into my saddle area and this is awful. I have had a lot more numbness in my feet too...
Sometimes I feel like I have wet myself when I haven't.
Okay I have had my whinge for the day!!! The pain is getting to me as it doesn't seem to be easing...
I will keep you posted but the test is ages away, but I should get the last results of my LP etc. tomorrow.
Cheers,
Udkas.
