Not TN or TMJ

I finally got a diagnosis for all my jaw and facial pain. After a specialized X-ray,  called a panolypse, it was found that I have a derangment of the temporal-mandibular disc.  It allws the mandible to strike the trigeminal nerves, causing all the pain. That's why the sx were confusing as to which dx I had. Neither one as it turns out. I have to have a tooth pulled on July 6th, then will have a splint made for my mouth, to change the alignment of the bones and disc. They hope. If not, will be wearing it forever. Direct quote from dentist. Doesn't that sound like fun! But if it helps the pain in my face, jaw, ear, headaches, I guess it will be worth it. Thanks to all who helped me with suggestions as to cause and home treatments of the pain.

I supposed having degenerative osteo-arthritis and degenerative disc disease might have something to do with it. Just never thought about a disc in my jaw being affected. Learn something new every day. Hope you all have a great weekend.

Maggie

I DO have TMJ, and I've been wearing a splint at night for probably 20 years.  The same one.  Yes, I've ground tiny holes in it at the back end, but it's still doing its job.

I'm sorry you have to have a tooth pulled to make things work, but don't fear the splint.  The worst part is paying for it.  After that, piece of cake!

Oh my, that doesn't sound very good... but I hope it stops the pain you have been having, and I'm glad you found out what caused it.
