Since we're so far off topic... You Buckeyes have all been to the Circleville Pumpkin Show, right? A cultural experience to rival no other, believe me. Culinary, as well! (Pumpkin ice cream is incredible, as is pumpkin fudge, pumpkin cheesecake, etc., etc.,...) Weather there is rarely hot (it's in late October, I think), so it might actually be something some of us could plan this year. Plan to be there for one of the night parades. My favorites have been the parade of marching bands one night (Fridays, I think), and I think they still do the Shriners the night before that, which was amazing the last time I saw it.
Hummmm. Good idea Inny. It seems you are drawing inspiration from the fair you attended recently. Any giant soft pretzels? We will save the funnel cake for dancing leaf days.

Now I understand what happened that day in El Paso, Texas! I was newly stationed there and renting my transportation (way back when a mid sized car cost me $150/month- I'm so old). It was very hot, so I left my windows cracked open when I parked at work thinking I would avoid a windshield blow out.
That sandstorm warning you mentioned? It was evidently meant for El Paso. Since I didn't have the Columbus radio station playing in my car I was totally unprepared. I still don't know how three inches of sand can enter a half inch window opening. A native born artillery officer stationed there tried to explain it to me but he was laughing so hard that I never did quite figure it out. A few months later I married him. I still don't understand him.
I sure am glad the good citizens of Columbus dodge that bullet.

You're absolutely right Ess. You spotted a flaw that needs corrected immediately! All advisories must be ready to recommend evacuation plans. Maine sounds wonderful. Please get back to me with route suggestions.
Last Thursday? Let me check my calendar and see what I was doing that day. Oh yeah, I worked midnights Wednesday and went to bed at 0830 Thursday morning to celebrate getting off the highway while still awake and alive. I think I slept just about 3.5 hours :-{
I'm just going to throw it out there as an FYI that this advisory is to alert us into preparedness for good things that are coming our way BEFORE they get here, so it may become unnecessary to inform others at a later time of the pleasures they have unfortunately already missed. (But thanks for sharing Lulu. Did you have a patio lunch that day?)
Sure gooddays! Then you can channel the breezes (minus the humidity) right up the east coast. BTW, your screen name qualifies you to be placed at the top of the list of potential project managers of this idea.
Snow? I'll take some right after we spend some time stuck in Sep-Oct-Nov when every beautiful autumn day is fully appreciated because any one of them could be the last we see for a very long time.
Happy if I made anyone smile. Thanks for joining in.
Mary
*Frantically getting out my snow cone machine, ice and syrups* If we are going to expect a nice wonderful breeze we are gonna go all out!!!!
snow cone anyone?
hehe

Met with the electric company guy about an hour ago in the back yard -- during a horrible downpour. Still hot, and a/c still on.
When I was a youngster, Columbus had a phone number you could call to give you the current time and temperature. (I guess that was pretty common in big cities, and not just a local feature.) Somewhere around my teen years, they added a very brief blurb about the weather between the time & temperature. Well, one day they said someone hit the wrong button, and according to one local radio station's newscast, during much of that morning callers would hear, "Sandstorm warning. Listen to radio for details." We're talking about Ohio. Yep, sandstorm warning. Well, I guess we dodged that bullet.
Fresh air advisory might mean even more these days, what with the air quality alerts they've been posting so much lately.
Would it be to much to ask that this advisory also include the tropical islands of the Caribbean, Puerto Rico in particular?
Gooddays
Did you miss the three and a half hour spell of cool, dry air last Thursday?
We are such whiners, aren't we? But it has been blazing hot and little relief in sight.
Thanks for the laugh, Mary. I'll wait to hear those siren alerts go off!
best, Lulu
Let it snow let is snow let is SNOW!!!
:-)

Mary, you're a hoot!
I advise immediate evacuation to Maine. Worked for me!
I too have had my windows closed and covered all summer and hardly remember what fresh air indoors is like. My AC is on non-stop, and my last bill, for this nice-sized but hardly huge condo was $300 last month. Yikes. Just can't stand the heat.
Not looking forward to blowing leaves, though. Since I have been in the land of the retired, I've greatly enjoyed September, cooler but stretching out the lazy hazy crazy days of summer.
